Would i get in trouble posting on here if i were a mason?

Just a little question... I may or may not have just found out my father is a member of the freemasons and he has invited me to come to a meeting of some sort. I know very little about the masons and had no idea my dad was even involved.

Two things im worried about. One, i post things on here. Two, i have a kinda iluminatti tattoo, u pyramid and all seeing eye from the dollar bill.

Any advise? (This is 100% not a joke)

Why in the world would you get in trouble for being a mason here??? Perhaps you should take the oppurtunity to learn about them. Don't just be like many others and let fears of ignorance become your beliefs.

Ok my first impression of this thread is it's a load of BS.

Why would you get in trouble ?

Mason's do a lot of good for there area's in general.

They are seen in a darker light only due to the fact there not a open invite club.

The only advice i can offer you is that you spell advice with a c and not a s.

Well, you're allowed to post in the Secret Societies forum on ATS if you're discussing the conspiracy aspects of a secret society. Otherwise, your thread will likely get moved to BTS.

There are many masons posting on ATS. I can't see why it would give you any problems.

actually, i have a good friend whose husband is a free mason and they are both kind, generous, open, and caring ppl. just because you are a mason doesn't make you evil. i agree w/ those who say others are skeptical because it is an invite only "club". that is not to say there aren't evil ppl in it, but there are evil ppl in almost every church across the globe, so being a part of something can't definatively lead others to conclude you are evil or good based on the membership alone.... as a general rule. all of this is IMO and should be taken as no more or no less than that.

Well, I generally agree with you, but I would point out that freemasonry is not an invite only "club." Its quite the opposite - its completely open to any male over 18 who believes in God. I think the "invite only" perception is something that somehow the conspiracy theorists got away with ingraining into the popular consciousness.

Being a mason is no more different than being a member of any socially conscious group, except freemasonry puts more emphasis than most on esoteric philosophy.

Why would anyone - including masons - care if you post here? Masons are active on these boards, and we rarely agree on anything. Finally...since the pyramid and the all seeing eye are not masonic in nature, I'm not sure why anyone would even notice.

Hey Jon,glad I came across you again.Masons have a bad name from all the BS conspirasist(sp?),I personally don't think of them as 'evil' and now that I know meetings are open to any male over 18 who believes in God,I might go.Masons just have a bad name and most of the stuff you hear about them are ridiculous! "ATS" would be no better than the ones we claim to oppose if we were prejudice to a certain group,if that were the case we would definitely not be "Denying ignorance"!I've never come across a Mason member to my knowledge on here,but I would welcome the opportunity to talk with them.So did you get the tattoo after or before learning of your father?

EDIT to add:The Free Masons are evil or control the world is BS!(I hope,lol)Sure they might know secrets,but everyone has secrets,maybe not as big lol,but hell I'd rather them have their secrets than our government have its!

really? i was just under the impression based on what i have heard, even by masons themselves, that this was by invite only. i stand corrected though if what you are saying is true.

Yes, it is true that freemasonry is open to everyone who meets the aforementioned requirements. That is where the "to be one ask one" thing comes from.

There are invitation only masonic bodies, but I've never seen a US jurisdiction where the blue lodge was by invitation. I also think that conspiracy theorists have worked hard on the web to make people think its invite only, as that plays well into the whole "masonry is evil because its secret" anti-mason propaganda. But it is, at least as much as I am aware..a myth.

It is generally considered bad taste to "invite" anyone to come, although this varies by grand lodge. In my particular jurisdiction it would simply be inappropriate to invite anyone, and in at least one jurisdiction I know of prospective candidates must ask at least 3 times before being given a petition.

Keep in mind, John1982 that just because you're dad invited you to join doesn't mean you have to. If you enjoy it, or find it rewarding, then stay, if you don't like it for whatever reason, you are welcome to leave as well. Give it a shot though, and take people's advice here, sure, but make your own decision.

But there are several people on ATS who hate Masons, and if you try to post anything in a thread about Masons you'll probably be blacklisted and insulted by them, unless you post something they like.

Thanks for all your advice guys. I was asking because i really have no idea about the freemasons and there are alot of people on this forum who seem to be of very inteligent and probably know alot more on the subject than i do, obviously my dad told me about fundraising for burma and such things like that, but i wanted to hear what you good people had to say. If my dad follows through with his offer then i will go and see what it is all about.

And as for my tattoo. i had it done about 3 years ago and only found out about my dad yesterday. Thanks for the help guys. And for the record, i would never post a hoax, what's the point?

I would also encourage you to learn from your father and/or going to a meeting and then decide if it is something you feel would work for you.

I have learned more about freemasonry since becoming a member here and it is nothing sordid or evil.

That actually depends on where you live. In some countries, Freemasonry is invitational only. In the United States, it is the exact opposite: invitations are not allowed, and everyone admitted has to specifically request it.
