CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Prime Minister Kevin Rudd accused his predecessor of abusing intelligence information to justify entering the Iraq war, saying Monday that the Australian people were misled.

what's wrong with Australia?? are they becoming more and more naughty and not willing to follow the USA's order??

Great to hear this news.

As much as I prefer a Labor government right now to the liberals, this could just be Rudd trying to distance himself from those old bad policies.

While that's good and all, he needs to withdrawl the troops, because this just sends a mixed message. We're also yet to see whether he has the ability to resist the suggestions of the US himself.

I guess I just mean talk is cheap.

Rudd said that China needs to cut down on its CO2 emmissions, especially it's future levels of it, but then allowed huge future coal sales to be locked down. Here's to hoping he doesn't continue to say one thing and do another.

How dependant is Australia on the US?

Is defense an issue any more?

Sorry, I'm not as well up on Aus/US relations and interdependencies as I ought to be.

When it comes to dependancy, I'm not sure. Our economies are certainly linked, I think most wealthy nations' are nowdays. One always affects the other.

Defence is never that much of a big thing though in this country, the focus isn't generally on it.

I'm biased of course, others may disagree but I think that going to Iraq was extremely unusual and was one of the demented events that typified the past liberal government.

So in other words, we're very friendly with the US (and others), but I don't think we're any more dependant on them than other countries, or other countries are on the US. Relations with nations like China seem more important, at least recently anyway... They buy a loooooot of coal.

I wonder who buys the uranium? That's something I've never looked into...

We were going to sell our uranium to India... but i think the deal got canceled because of a back lash from the public... something to do with it freeing up other Indian uranium to be used in weapons... or maybe that was Russia... one of the two.
