Hi, new to the forum and all that (although been reading for ages).
My father told me recently about a UFO sighting he witnessed. It happened at some point in the summer of 1968. My father was located in a small town
called Tolworth in the county of Surrey in the UK. Now my Dad is the biggest skeptic going, and I can't actually believe this is the first time he's
told me about the incident in all these years! I'm a big skeptic too, and have never met anyone with any kind of reliable claim to having seen a
proper UFO, so I was totally surprised when my very own Dad tells me this story!
He couldn't be any more specific with regards to time period than summer 1968. He says he was driving home at about 5pm, it was still light and he
saw a ball of light in the sky that just seemed to hang there. He didn't think anything of it as it wasn't doing anything extraordinary. He arrived
home and had dinner, and then went back out to drive to my future mother's house. By this time it was getting dark, and he noticed the light in the
sky was still there. He arrived at my mother's and saw that lots of people were out on the street looking at the light.
Over the period of another few hours (he says the sighting lasted till about 10 or 11pm), he says that lots of smaller balls of light would break off
from the main ball and start darting about the sky at incredible speeds. Quicker than you could move your eyes or head to see where they were going.
He said they would move from one side of the sky to the other in a split second. The smaller balls would do this intermittently and then rejoin with
the main ball, and then they would do it again. Eventually at about 10 or 11pm, it just vanished, by that time pretty much everyone down that road was
out on the street observing it.
So I guess you could call this a mass sighting? My father says that the story was printed in the next issue of the county paper (called The Surrey
Comet) and included photos of the UFO.
So, does anyone on here know anything about this sighting? I don't know if it ever became a famous case, or was just lost in the annals of obscurity.
From the magnitude of the sighting and the way my father describes it, it certainly seems like something that, if I had seen it for myself, would have
utterly convinced me it was extra terrestrial in origin.
If anyone has any further info on this sighting, I'd be most greatful. I have emailed the editor of The Surrey Comet to enquire about their archives,
and whether it's possible for me to find the original article. If I find anything I will post it here.
Thanks for reading!
