Pakistani nuclear scientist denies selling secrets

www.iht.com

PARIS: Abdul Qadeer Khan, the founder of Pakistan's nuclear weapons program, was reported on Friday to have withdrawn an admission that he sold nuclear technology to Iran, North Korea and Libya, saying that he had made it under pressure from President Pervez Musharraf.

He made the comment in a telephone interview with a correspondent in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, from The Guardian, a British newspaper, which called the conversation his first with the Western media since an emotional..

Not me. I wonder why he would retract his own admission at this time. I saw a CBC news show on him and the evidence they had was pretty convincing. Ahh, but what can you believe anymore. When it comes right down to it, can anyone not involved really know what happened?

Well I personally think its ridiculous to have ever even believed that the AQ Khan was telling the truth in the first place, whether it be on national television or not.

If anyone has even an iota of understanding in Pakistan's nuclear program and ambitions, they would know that ANY nuclear proliferation would have had to be carried out at a very large and controlled scale, govt/military level and not by some nuclear peddler of a scientist.

AQ Khan was a scapegoat , to hide the true nature of Pakistan's proliferative regimes in the last 20 years and of course to hide America's complete knowledge of this and ignorance of the same.

Grow up people

So, are you saying that Pakistan was NOT involved in proliferation, or that Khan was not involved. Because I find both scenarios hard to believe. I agree that the whole state apparatus had to have known and been involved in some way, but I think Khan was the lead scientist involved, so to speak.

The lead scientist was just that; a lead SCIENTIST. Whether he knew of the proliferous nature of his country's nuclear policy or not is irrelevant. Its not like he would cry foul on an international stage or something.
He helped build the bomb and the govt decided to barter that technology in order to further national interests.

When the proliferation became a direct relevant adversity for the US post 9/11 and Iraq (Everyone knew about the 'nukes for missiles' nexus between Pakistan, N Korea and Iran muuuucch before that
they could not implicate Pakistan as a whole as Pakistan was their darling bum chum in the war on terror et al.
Similarly Pakistan could not own up to being a a part of something so distasteful, that no one in teh nuclear club had engaged in until now: handing nukes to rogue and fanatic states. China handed tech to Pakistan to counter balance and divert the Indian nuclear strategical doctrine, while Pakistan stood to gain no strategic advantage by peddling nuke tech to NK and Iran. Pakistan just did it for the missile tech and money; despicable.

So whom to implicate? Scapegoat a scientist that everyone's heard about and lol! you have a situation fix!

Khan was a scientist, and a salesman. I have little doubt that he was involved at the highest level. Here is a documentary from Canada's CBC that will explain my reasons for believing so. I agree with you in that it was probably the government's decision to barter the technology, and not Khan's alone.

I'm sorry I think you weren't getting my point.
I'm am NOT denying that Khan knew his nation was engaging in nuclear proliferation. I am NOT denying that Khan willingly participated in it.

All I am saying is that he did this under the instructions of his leaders (Pakistani government, military, intelligence agencies). It is as good as saying that the crew of the Enola Gay was fully aware of the genocidal bombing it was about to carry out. Did they do it for the hec of it?
No they did it for their country and for a cause they believed in. The same goes for Khan.
It is not Khan who can be blamed. It is Pakistan as a whole.
And believe me when I tell you that it is not only the military or secret service members of Pakistan who cultivated this nukes-for-missiles-n-money program with North Korea, Iran, Syria, Saudi Arabia etc. It was democratically members of state, Prime Ministers et al.
Would you believe me if I told you that Mrs Benazir Bhutto went over to North Korea in the early 90s (with Musharraf as the serving DGMO) on a covert trip? Would you believe that this Bhutto sat besides Kim Jong-Il and said :
"You knew my father very well. H respected you a lot. I need those Nodong/Taepodong missles and I can make it worth your while"
or something to that very effect?.

So AQ Khan is just a man in the chain of things, a man who's been 'framed' because he was to only dispensable popular figure in the Pak nuclear program. ITs easier for international stature to blame one sinful man rather than a whole national policy of sin.

My friend, there's a lot to learn about this gem of nation called Pakistan. We live next door to it so we need to know our neighbors!

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. My opinions may be a tad biased but I may be able to provide points of view that aren't that freely available.
Also I apologize I did not go through you link info. Was there some particular part you wanted me to look into or did you want me to read it all?

You are not being biased you are just being typical 'Indian' mate
This is your mate living next door to you

Oh Yes we traded nukes to North Korea for Missile technology what's wrong with that... we got to defend our country at any cost, no ? Every nation has the right to take any possible measure to ensure its country security and sovereignty what's wrong with that...

You seem to be pissed off ... because we have now deterrence capability against Indian attack on any given day ...

No one is gonna get played into your tricks buddy sorry for that
