Ultimate Cause of All That Is

Pondering on quantum physics...
Of course if your religion has a creation story that would be the ultimate cause

For others what are your thoughts?
I know there is no TOE (yet) but what would it be? Is it a force? A particle? A law? God? If is is any of those than isn't it in some way all of those?

Pretty much, if you believe that science is working on discovering how everything works and why it is what it is AND that the universe is orderly and governed by laws AND began at some point what caused it to begin? What is the ultimate cause? There are quantum physicists whose life's work is trying to figure out the TOE (theory of everything).

And that is exactly why they are working on it.I have a sense of string theory.

hasn't quantum physics or mechanics (if they are even the same thing) proven that the universe is random?

No, it isn't - neither.
A creation story, be it the Genesis or the "Big Bang", is simply a description of the act of creation, certainly not the ultimate cause of the creation.

imagine a light dissipating.. into darkness..

then eventually all the tiny spots of the original light.. over quadrillions of years, eventually ... regroup.. and amalgamate into a form closer and closer to the original light... then once the light is completely regrouped.. BANG explodes again..
a constant "breathing"...

the lights.. coming together.. conciousness.. "order" .. coming to join with one another.. merging.. becoming more and more complex.. living every possible experience ... becoming more and more organized under and through and above each other in more and more complex forms of conciousness..
.. then eventually communing in one complete "whole" .. or "wholy" or "holy" light...

and then.. upon becoming one.. a final decision is made..
and in an act of love...
this light implodes itself in order to re-experience it'self in every possible way again... and again.. and again...

or maybe the first time .. MANY experiences WERE NOT had... and the next time.. it wishes to seek those new experiences that weren't had...
nor bad nor good.. just completely negating itself through wishing to.. because "once one"... there is no reflection.. nothing to experience itself through... and it must implode to explode and separate into complete chaos...

big bang--big crunch-big bang - big crunch...ad infinitum

but imagine each "crunch".. not necessarily "bouncing" as it BANGS at the end..

but busting THROUGH itself into the other side...

in and out in and out..

"all existence" .. "the source" ... "god with a big G" ... "ALL"... experiencing itself subjectively...

over.. and over..


and over


and...

or maybe it's incredibly more complex than that, and what i've just described.. is just a mere sine wave function in a fractal of what is acually "ALL" .. and all that stemmed from ONE base moment of creation.

or maybe it's all holographic replicas of itself up and down through infinity.. infinitely small repeating infinitely large repeating.. over and over endlessly.. with many "breathings" "bang-crunch-sinewave-fractal expressions" going on ......

Ye Shall be as Gods

The question what was the First Cause remains open.

Many people would like to close it by invoking a super-being, possibly the ultimate Being, which of course begs the question of where this Being came from. Saying 'God did it' just pushes the issue further back: what made God?

Cosmological models based on string theory, such as the so-called 'ekpyrotic universe' model, propose that the universe came into being due to interaction between entities ('branes' or whatever) existing in other dimensions as well as the four we know; the action of those entities in higher-dimensional space is manifested in spacetime as 'all that is'. Such models, by the way, may be derived from science, but we really cannot call them scientific.

Besides, such explanations, like the God one, simply push the issue further back. Where did these higher-dimensional entities come from? What was their first cause?

Orthodox science simply states that the universe has always been there (in the Big Bang theory, time only pertains inside the universe, so it makes no sense to speak of anything existing 'before the Big Bang'). But this, too, begs the question of what brings (not brought) all that is into being. Science does not deal with this question, which lies outside its scope.

Where does that leave us?

We all agree that human knowledge has its limits. However, the incredible success we have enjoyed at understanding the world, especially since the rise of science in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, has brought us to believe that, even if we don't have them now, the answers to the Biggest Questions, such as 'what is the ultimate cause of all that is?' will one day be within our grasp.

This may be a delusion. It is quite possible that there are some questions the human brain will never be able to answer, quite possibly because it is unable to conceive and formulate the questions properly in the first place.

So we may never know.

But take comfort. Not only is the universe great and mysterious: it is also very young. Not quite as young as 'young-Earth creationists' need to believe, but still no older than a few tens of billions of years.

As for ourselves, we are newborns: we have only been around for a hundred and fifty thousand years or so.

We have plenty of time ahead of us, and we are learning more every day.

The Serpent's promise may yet be kept.

For what it's worth, Chris Langan, known as the 'smartest man in the world' with the highest IQ (supposedly), wrote his TOE (Theory of Everything).

It's easy to find online with a quick search. It's a difficult read to put it lightly and I didn't get far in my attempt to get through it.

I enjoyed what he says in the introduction about the requirements and difficulties in proposing an all encompassing theory of EVERYTHING.
