This is something that I've thought a bit about, it doesnt rate really high in my interests but every now and then I'll hear something else about it that will make me wonder some more.
The last time it really piqued my interest was a couple of years ago when there were a few articles in the paper/news sites regarding morgellons patients in Texas trying to convince their physicians and the rest of the world that it was a physical ailment and not something their minds created.
These particular stories interested me, mostly because I live in South Texas myself, a place where this disease seems to fairly widespread.

If diseases like AIDS and bird flu scare you, wait until you hear what’s next. Doctors are trying to find out what is causing a bizarre and mysterious infection that’s surfaced in South Texas.

Morgellons disease is not yet known to kill, but if you were to get it, you might wish you were dead, as the symptoms are horrible. “These people will have like beads of sweat but it’s black, black and tarry,” said Ginger Savely, a nurse practioner in Austin who treats a majority of these patients. Patients get lesions that never heal. “Sometimes little black specks that come out of the lesions and sometimes little fibers,” said Stephanie Bailey, Morgellons patient. Patients say that’s the worst symptom — strange fibers that pop out of your skin in different colors. “He’d have attacks and fibers would come out of his hands and fingers, white, black and sometimes red. Very, very painful,” said Lisa Wilson, whose son Travis had Morgellon’s disease.

While all of this is going on, it feels like bugs are crawling under your skin. So far more than 100 cases of Morgellons disease have been reported in South Texas. “It really has the makings of a horror movie in every way,” Savely said.

While Savely sees this as a legitimate disease, there are many doctors who simply refuse to acknowledge it exists, because of the bizarre symptoms patients are diagnosed as delusional. “Believe me, if I just randomly saw one of these patients in my office, I would think they were crazy too,” Savely said. “But after you’ve heard the story of over 100 (patients) and they’re all — down to the most minute detail — saying the exact same thing, that becomes quite impressive.”

This is still a very controversial topic, especially among Doctors and Scientists
but it appears that these victims are gaining the attention of more and more Doctors each year, here is another article where Scientists are debating the existence and the cause of Morgellons.

Lesions on person suffering from Morgellons disease

Scientists are debating whether a debilitating condition called Morgellons disease could be caused by bacteria or fungus on plants in California, Texas and Florida, though many agree that research is leaving them with more questions than answers.

While there are many unfounded theories about the cause of Morgellons disease, including alien abduction and government conspiracies, some have attempted to draw a link between the mysterious illness and genetically modified food by suggesting engineered crops may contain bacterium responsible for the disease.

What is Morgellons disease?

Dr. Vitaly Citovsky of the Morgellons Research Foundation said the condition has many reported symptoms that have virtually stumped scientists.

"Generally, people complain of an appearance of fibers in their skin," he told WND. "It itches. There's some inflammation, skin lesions, and they complain that it generally affects their well-being with fatigue similar to Lyme disease. Some people complain of psychological conditions. We cannot define it precisely."

Other commonly reported symptoms include:

* Multi-colored fiber-like strands or crystals protruding out of skin
* Fatigue
* A feeling of parasites or worms crawling under skin
* Black specks in lesions that do not heal
* Joint swelling and/or hair loss
* Memory loss or general brain fog with difficulty concentrating

The Morgellons Research Foundation reported that approximately 10,000 U.S. families with Morgellons symptoms registered with the organization prior to February 2007. Of all individuals reporting, 24 percent lived in California, and a disproportionate number resided in the San Francisco metropolitan area.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a Jan. 16 statement indicating that Kaiser Permanente's Northern California Division of Research has received a $338,000 grant to to learn more about Morgellons, an affliction it refers to as a "skin condition."

However, Dr. Ahmed Kilani, president and CEO of Clongen Laboratories and a specialist in infectious disease detection, told WND the illness is much more than a mere skin condition.

"It spreads between individuals," he said. "Unlike infection, this is something much more serious. People die from complications because the disease is more than skin deep. It's not just a skin condition that causes lesions. It goes into the stomach and impacts the G.I. tract and causes brain conditions."

Health authorities said they are baffled by a mysterious and controversial skin condition called Morgellons disease, which some have called a plague, and which has appeared in a cluster of cases in North Texas.

Cheryall Spiller said she moves much slower than she once did because of the mystery disease she said torments her.

"Small white worms that come out of my ears, you can feel them itching in there," she said. "You can get a Q-tip and dig them out."

Stephanie Bailey said she is plagued by Morgellons, too.

"Sometimes little black specks...come out of the lesions and sometimes little fibers," she said.

The disease looks like sores or scabs, but under a microscope, tiny and painful fibers of different colors pop out of the lesions.

"It sounds a little like a parasite, like a fungal infection [or] like a bacterial infection," said Ginger Savely, an Austin nurse practitioner. "But it never quite fits all the criteria of any known pathogen."

Savely has treated over 100 patients, including many from North Texas. Patients have often been turned away by doctors or told the disease is all in their minds.

In fact, many doctors don't believe Morgellons is real.

San Antonio Express

"I am 100 percent convinced that Morgellons is a real disease pathology," said Dr. Randy Wymore, an assistant professor of pharmacology and physiology at OSU.

Well, yall get the idea, there are many other links out there for reference and I dont want to make this post any longer than I have to lol.
There are many theories for the cause of morgellons, from Chemtrails to Genetically Modified foods.
So, I was just wondering what the general opinion was on this topic.
There arent to many recent topics on this disease on the board, so it may be that its not an important topic on here or because of the lack of attention it gets in the media, people just dont think of it to much.
In any case, it just caught my attention tonight and wanted to put it in writing before another story superseded it lol.

Funny you should ask this. Since there has been some mention in other threads here recently I read a little about it. Here's what I found:

Morgellons (also called Morgellons disease or Morgellons syndrome) is a name given in 2002 by lab technician Mary Leitao to a proposed condition characterized by a range of cutaneous (skin) symptoms including crawling, biting, and stinging sensations; finding fibers on or under the skin; and persistent skin lesions (e.g., rashes or sores), initially in her son. Despite the lack of evidence that it is a distinct condition, or any agreed set of diagnostic symptoms, a large number of individuals have self-diagnosed with the condition and, motivated by a widespread lack of acceptance in the medical community, have used political means to attempt to have the condition recognised.

The U.S government's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states that it is not known at present whether the condition represents a new disease entity, or whether persons who identify themselves as having Morgellons have a common cause for their symptoms, share common risk factors, or are contagious. Many health professionals, including dermatologists, regard Morgellons as a manifestation of other known medical conditions, including delusional parasitosis but this opinion is not conclusive or unanimous.

Source

It came (the name Morgellons) from a 1674 medical paper that described symptoms somewhat like Morgellons, Leitao said. "I never expected it (the name) to stick," she said.

I didn't read everything out there. Just enough to answer what I was needing at the time. Apparently you've already done more research than I did. Definitely check out the Wiki talk back page. For the most part it is a long boring read, but you will see some medical professionals comments and cute asides (such as the one dismissing any use of Rense as any source.)

Thanks for that info garyo, I didnt realize there were recent discussion going on about this.
Theres one thing in particular about morgellons that has really had me perplexed and that is these fibers that are claimed to work their way to the surface from underneath the skin.
When I first learned about this I figured these fibers were coming from clothing or furniture sticking to these open sores but apparently that isnt the case.

Wiki

A forensic scientist at the Tulsa Police Crime Lab in Oklahoma searched the FBI's national database, but the Morgellons sample did not match any known fiber in the database.[8] Lab director Mark Boese said the fibers were "consistent with something that the body may be producing," adding, "These fibers cannot be manmade and do not come from a plant. This could be a byproduct of a biological organism."[8]

To be honest, if it wasnt for this phenomena, this condition probably wouldnt be so controversial and interesting, at least for me anyway.

edit: Hi antar and thanks for the link

I am a morgellon sufferer. As most people that have this would attest to, even with all the evidence we see on our bodies, it is unbelievable. So it is not dificult to understand why doctors, friends, family think we are delusional.
I live in Canada and had never heard of this. I had all the symptoms and finally concluded that I must be demon possessed. Why else would I feel like creatures were crawling through me, on me,sprouting from my eyes. Why was my skin glowing with black, white and red crystals, and my god, how could black, white and red threaded fur balls come from my throat and inside insideous looking lesions and who the hell pulled fibers from their eye balls and how come my skin looked like I had sprinkled pepper on it?
Thus began my journey. I threw everything out of my house that could have invited the devil in. I got prayed over and fasted and poured oil and repented . I changed my diet and quit any prescription drugs. I went to a native healer and phyciatrist. I took the anti phycotic drugs he gave me hoping against hope that I was delusional. That I wanted attention and so self mutillated and put threads in my skin to get it.
I finally found out about morgellons on the internet and connected with hundreds of people that could have written my identical story.
What a relief to know I wasn't alone.

The suffering from Morgellons is real. The symptoms are unbelievable. The growing number of people with this are not crazy. If you can possibly imagine what it would be like to live with what has been described over and over again, how can any MD so callously dismiss this as delusional. It says a lot about the so called debunkers as well. I look like death right now, and only three months ago I was bench pressing 255. I couldn't get into the gym because I don't have the energy to go through the motions. I don't have to worry about how much it is going to cost me if I throw all my clothes away because none of them fit any more.

The only reason I will be able to return to work is because I started on the controversial antibiotic therapy my "traditional" MD told me was crazy. Three weeks have gone by with noticeable and steady improvement from the anti-biotics. You know you are in trouble when after running countless tests that all say you are perfectly healthy your doctor asks you if you are doing drugs.

There should be alarm right now about this. Those of you pushing to stop research into this are digging your own grave. Morgellons is VERY contagious.

This is part of a eugenics program to eliminate a huge percentage of the earths population.

On ATS there is a thread called "nothing in chemtrails...yeah right" which makes mention of the black substance that is excreated from the human body.

TIME TO WAKE UP - here's the coffee

1) We can verify that there are planes 24/7 around the world releasing "stuff" into the atmosphere. Go outside and look at the sky!!

2) Brush your teeth, take a cue tip soaked in 3% hydrgen peroxide. Swab your tongue, inside cheecks & gums. Have a little red wine in a glass, which you swish around 6x each side of your mouth,....make sure you are standing over a clean sink, open your mouth and be prepared to see the same "black stuff" come out of your mouth. You will notice tht ther are "individual particals" and then there are particals that seem to form or gather on hair like fibers,- rumored to be nano with ability to self-assemble micro machines, could explain the movement under a persons skin
99% of the worlds population will respond pos. to this

All they have to do is change the ingredients of what they spray and we will not wake up, then all they have to do is go door to door putting the dead in FEMA containers.

Do you have what looks like a raised rough "bump" or "skin tag"? Fibers in the spray, have the ability to stick in the skin and the body reacts by trying to force it out. (they say if you have a black light run it over your body and the fibers will glow like soap powder on clothing - remember your party days.
The spray program is been going on for many years, allowing a build up. I have heard stories that people go for surgery and under the knife the doctor s find that all organs are covered in black stuff which is a fungas.

I first learned about this by mistake about a year and half ago. I would not drive with the windows down, or even cared to cut the grass.

The peroxide & red wine gives me hope that I'm slowing down the accumilation in my body. The other fact that has introdced a level of calm to this is no matter what the show on T.V. is about, 9 out of 10 times when there is a scene showing the sky,-there's a chemtrail. eg: over the White House, over Edwards AirForce Base, etc.. still does make it OK, in fact it says that either one of two things are going on:

1) Chemtrails won't kill us

or

2) It is sooo much bigger than the government that even they can't control it

or

3) They take pills to counter effects

Q: How are the comments relative to this thread

A: The symtoms are real, but the diagnosis is wrong

* I have been researching this subject for more than 12 months, I wish I never stumbled onto it, but I'm there now and will gladly offer logic over fear mongering.
