New non-lethal bullets

It looks like the days of effective non-lethal weapons may be coming.

"In a manner similar to stun guns and "Taser" technology, a ShockRounds(TM) bullet discharges an electrical shock upon impact and disrupts the nervous system. However, the charge is delivered via a modified metal or rubber bullet. It incapacitates the target immediately, although temporarily, via electric shock."

Although it's not quite the phaser of star trek, with a maximum range of 100 meters, it could be very effective in riot control. I know I wouldn't want to be shot by one.

The real test will be using it against someone on PCP. Just the other day I was watching Cops, and they maced a dude on PCP in the face, and he never even stopped for a second, just took off running. I would say PCP is probably the toughtest test of non-lethal technology, as it seems to make people at least think they are superman, and to a certain extent actually be him considering the stuff they do.

Perhaps it could be used in a secondary side arm. Police officers could choose the weapon depending on the threat. The site also said that they were working on bullets that would be fired out of conventional firearms. Maybe a police officer could have one magazine loaded with stun and one with normal 9mm.

Either way, I'll stick to good old metal bullets.

In combination with one of those metal storm hand guns where you can choose your desired bullet, it could be a great addition to a police force, granted this isn't all BS of course.

a secondary weapon would be pistols and primary weapons would be a rifle or a sub machine gun.....so those nightsticks they have are the melee weapons and the handguns would be a secondary weapon besides the rifles they have in their trunks of the sqaud car....

besides these weapons sound pretty kool no long term effect on them just a short time of being incapacitated no killings no nothing.....but of course if you are incapacitated for too long you can die and such

I read futher down in the second site and found their plans for military ammunition. Apparently, they will add the shock capacity to rounds that will have the standard wound characteristic making it easier to take out a target.

Shot and shocked at the same time, that doesn't sound like fun. Can you imagine a SAW with this ammo?
