SUIT: Man Forced to Sit in JetBlue Bathroom

www.nypost.com

A Manhattan man is feeling flush with anger after he says he was forced to sit in the bathroom for three hours on a cross-country JetBlue flight.

Gokhan Mutlu is now suing the airline for $2 million for having "mortified, disgraced, degraded and shamed" him by confining him to the can.

Can't say that I blame the guy for suing! That WOULD be awfully degrading to be told by the captain that he's letting somebody else take your seat and you'll have to sit in the bathroom for the next 3 hours, in front of ALL the other passengers no less!

The pilot told him the "flight attendant wanted to be more comfortable and that the 'jump seat' was not comfortable for her."

Mutlu "asked if he was being directed to surrender the seat issued to him and to take the 'jump seat' for the remaining part of the flight, which was about 3 ½ hours."

The pilot told him the jump seat was for "for personnel only," the suit says.

"Even more puzzled and perplexed, the plaintiff asked if the pilot was directing him to stand for the remaining part of the flight," it says.

The pilot said no - Mutlu should just "go and 'hang out' in the bathroom," the suit says. In the meantime, the stewardess took Mutlu's seat, "closed her eyes and pretended to sleep."

That's how you want to treat your paying customers there "captain"!

I'll bet he was sweet on the stewardess or something!

Hope it was worth it for him, I'm sure he'll lose his job for treating a paying customer like that! Great P.R.!

Some in the media have been making this a laughing matter, but I agree with the passenger.

This was absolutely inexcusable and given Jet Blue's history of ignoring the needs of customers, it'd be good to see them rack up a hefty fine, besides a judgement in favor of the passenger.

I find it hard to believe that this is actually true - considering i doubt there was a seatbelt in the toilet. this sounds like another example of someone looking for a reason to sue. if it IS true, something was definitely wrong with the pilot and the flight attendant - it just doesn't make sense. totally ridiculous!

What very few people know is that this is one of the airlines dirty little secret. The passenger was flying on a buddy pass. These are the passes given to employees that are occasionally sold on the black market (see craigslist). Though he did pay it was nominal compared to a full price fare. What the flying public doesn't know is that these pass holders are treated like second class citizens out of fear that the pass holder will have his/her privilege revoked. This pilot went too far and needs to be punished. If the flight attendant took the jump seat then that’s where she needed to stay the remainder of the flight. Nonreving, thats short for non revenue passenger, is possibly one of the worst ways to fly. I hope a jury awards this guy twice what he is asking for. This will show the airlines to treat these types of passengers better.

Actually, the crew should treat all customers the same, regardless of where they sit or how much they paid.

Each class comes with certain perks, but courtesy should be accorded all.

If this pilot did what is said to have been done. He shouldn't have his job. Like others have said, Jet Blue has enough trouble with serious complaints of passenger treatment. This is not going to go away quietly unless they settle out of court. I for one would not settle for less than a gaurantee of the pilots termination and large monitary restitution!

I am familiar with the treatment received by pilots as a nonrev'r myself. It isn't just JetBlue. I don't know what it is they (pilots) have to prove by deliberately addressing a nonrev'r and making a scene in front of the entire plane full of customers. I am a 30 y/o professional and very courtious, quiet, and respectable. They seem to taunt me as if to push me to the point where I do something that will terminate my preiveledge or jeapordize my girlfriend's position as a flight attendant. I show them the respect they have earned, regardless; though I am beginning to question whether or not they actually deserve it.

What is the big deal? Everybody in this country thinks they should sue, sue, sue!

The guy was flying for free on a completely sold out flight. He spent 90 minutes in the can. Give him a meal voucher and reprimand the pilot. Time to move on.

He was a PAYING CUSTOMER that was on standby!

Man Forced To Sit In JetBlue Bathroom

Mutlu says the bizarre incident happened Feb. 23, when he was a standby passenger for a flight from San Diego to New York.

He was told the flight was full because a flight attendant was taking the last available seat, but was then told she would sit in the "jump seat" and he could have her seat, 2E, the suit says.

He was issued a boarding pass and took the seat,

Now for the next one.

No, he didn't spend "90 minutes in the can!" The 90 minutes referred to how long they were into the flight when he started dozing off!

He was issued a boarding pass and took the seat, but got a rude awakening as he began to doze off about 90 minutes into the flight.

That's when the pilot called him "towards the front of the plane, towards the cockpit, and advised the plaintiff that he would have to give his seat up" to the flight attendant, the suit says.

How long did he spend in the can!

Reading the articles usually prevents this kind of confusion.
