I don't know. Maybe it was an example of how we're supposed to work for 6 days and rest for 1. Just because you can do something instantly doesn't mean you have to. Personally I'm slowly sipping this cup of coffee. Sure I could gulp it down but why rush a good thing?

Wouldn't that would make the 5 day 40 hour work week unDivinely inspired

~~~
its also something with the number 7, which connotes fufillment & completeness. [which the 6 days of creation are only one component]
And also the meaning of the number 6, which is related to mankind,
Adams world, he being the designated tender of the garden, was all completed in its own fullness in the 6th day-night.
With the 7th day (spiritual component) setting up a 7day=week Standard
for men to follow (circadian rhythm)
666 is the original creation & division of time being overturned 3 fold...(opinion)
Who said it was 'divine'?
We are STILL supposed to work 6 days a week.
The Bible says if a man doesn't work, he shouldn't eat.
A word to the rich and lazy.
It's STILL a SEVEN day creation. Not 6.
I don't really 'get' what your meaning is.
Very good question. The author of Genesis, the book that relates the "beginings" of the world to the Children of Abraham, needed to be able to convey the message of how and where they came from in a form that they could relate to.
He used the word that we translate from Hebrew to English "day". It simply conveys a period of time not a literal day.
The idea of taking 6 days to complete this world in the biblical creation theory can be seen in the study of Numerology and the "meaning" of the #6.
This number deals with spirit manifestation into material reality. Thus, what was spirit becomes manifest in this particular reality by the Creator in the image of the Creator.
The beehive is the symbol of this number. Again, think what bees and their society represent, much like the societies of man, eh???
The #6, though still has a low spiritual vibration compared to other numbers and only denotes solid, comfortable material structure.
I realize that "God" didn't work with the number...but it does fit in with the human interpretation of it's meaning.
As for the 7th day being a day of rest...add the 7 and 6 together and get 13...add the 1+3...and you get 4...4 is the number of elements, earth, air, fire, water...all combined in the Creators plan...so why not kick back and enjoy what was made?
reguards,
Holly
Where does it say we are supposed to work 6 days a week?
I don't think I've ever read that, the verse you quoted is taken outta context though:
2 Thessalonians 3:7-11
7For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;
8Neither did we eat any man's bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
9Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.
10For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
11For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
12Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
This verse is talking about preachers doing hard labor for there pay and not taking money from the congregation to pay them.
It isn't really a reference to anything else, I too was brought up to believe what you quoted, but have'nt found a verse supporting it.
Thats what Im thinking. Maybe God decided to do it all in 6 days as an example to us as how we should have our weeks or something like that. It kinda makes sence when you think about it as Adam and Eve needed a model to work off originaly for their time and all that. Plus God probibly thought it was easier to show humans like that rather then have to explain it all later.
It's one of the 10 Commandments.
Exodus 20
8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
Just because of the Genesis account, why does that mean he still did not create the world in a nanosecond? Then, when he talked to Moses, he decided to tell the story as a parable in order to create an example and to help to people of that time, understand how the world came about.
He I$. We are not omniscient, though we "act" and speak like we know all.
God does not have a "time", it has no meaning to Him, but we are lost without it. A blink of His eye could be a lifetime to us - or 10.000 years..we do not know. Written scripture so that man could understand and follow (which we did not, from start anyways) The 7th day is to get close to Him without the stress of duties. The 7th day goes out to Him solely. We need to serve Him on a daily basis, but the 7th is His and we need to give our souls rest to get closer to Him on a totally personal level. Tired minds don't do the job well. If he "rested" it tells us how Holy that day should be/IS. That is why He "rested" so that we may follow an example for our well being.
He set an "example" for us so that we may rest our butts because we are only human.
According to this guy's book, Sunday is the first day of the week and we should observe Saturday as our day of rest. Therefore, we're all going to hell!
Yet another example of the metaphorical teachings of the bible being taken at face value.
The six days is representitive of six periods in time, not literal days. It is simply a demonstration of the order of creation, not the actual timespan. The use of metaphor is a common tactic when demonstrating abstract or difficult to grasp concepts. While the idea of an "order" of creation is very basic today, this was not the case at the time Genesis was written.
Exactly! At least this guy gets it.
You need to put on your spiritual glasses to be able to read what the bible means. You can understand how it is hard interpret intentions and emotion in text when you're online posting in forums or chatrooms, yet someone authors a bunch of books known as the bible and everyone picks it apart as if it is meant as face value, literally.
Time is not a constraint of God, therefore it makes no difference whether it be 7 days to complete the creation or 7000 years. Spiritually, the creation is not a singular event but a never ending event and we are in it right now. When given the week as a metaphor, it should conjure up what you know of how the week fits within the month and its relationship to the moon cycle and sun cycle, how one week also rolls into the next one and it starts anew.
