Microsoft WorldWide Telescope blasts off

news.ninemsn.com.au

Microsoft Corp has launched its WorldWide Telescope, bringing the free Web-based program for zooming around the universe to a broad audience.

WorldWide Telescope, developed by Microsoft's research arm, knits together images from the Hubble Space Telescope, the Chandra X-Ray Observatory Centre, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and others.

Computer users can browse through the galaxy on their own or take guided tours of different outer-space destinations developed by astronomers and academics.

The site lets users choose from a number of different telescopes and switch between different light wavelengths.

"The WorldWide Telescope is a powerful tool for science and education that makes it possible for everyone to explore the universe," said Bill Gates, Microsoft's chairman, in a statement.

Looks like we will soon have google space. Will this be controlled so we can't see the lies that they have been telling us forever that there is UFO's and Alien's?

System requirements say it needs a Gig of RAM (2 Gig recommended)

Since I'm still running a poxy 256MB of ram for the time being I very much doubt I could run it - shame really.

It does sound like a cool tool to use, or just to play with.
I can just see the next Star Trek movie with them pulling up Google sky for the scenes where they use astro psychics.

Do you have any evidence for those claims? I'd be very interested to hear it.
