Education vs. Incarceration
I am looking at a trend that is almost surreal. I think we may have a conspiracy here or maybe just complete incompetence. You decide.
We as a nation will spend almost $50,000.00 to $100,000.00 a year, per inmate, for incarceration, but when it comes to education it’s approximately
$7500.00 per pupil. Shouldn’t this be the other way around? We should put the inmates to work, and yes, hard labor of 40 hours a week like the rest
of us. And we should educate the children correctly so they don’t end up illiterate and in jail, costing us 50 to 100k per inmate.
You have to understand that a person in prison is a double whammy for our society. Why? Because they are not producing in society, earning an average
wage and paying taxes, but yet they burden the rest of us, so an inmate is double the cost to keep them, plus processing costs each time of
incarceration.

The current school system is clearly a failure. We are failing our future generation.
As graduation rates go down, school ratings go up. “ No child left behind” and accountability systems are clearly failing according to this
article.

As graduation rates go down, school ratings go up
A new study by researchers at Rice University and the University of Texas-Austin finds that Texas' public school accountability system, the model for
the national No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB), directly contributes to lower graduation rates. Each year Texas public high schools lose at least
135,000 youth prior to graduation -- a disproportionate number of whom are African-American, Latino and English-as-a-second-language (ESL)
students.

Are we completely blind here in the USA? Let’s see if something doesn’t work let’s give it a huge budget and BS people telling them everything
is great, but when something does work give it little money and little attention.
What does it take for things to turn around and make some sense?
