Audio historians have discovered and played back the oldest-known audio recording, made 17 years before Edison invented the phonograph.

So does this prove that Edison didn't invent that technology, he just stood down the allyway next to the patent shop with a billy club...Makes sense...seems how money is always made..

It is interesting that this recorded voice is seventeen years older then the first Edison recording. It was recorded in soot from an oil lamp. Probably not a real durable recording, but I think the main point is sound was converted to a visual wave form.
As for Edison just waiting with a billy club to steel the technology, being a shameless self promoter I would not put pirating technology past him but I do not know of a situation where he was in France to knock people on the head and steel technology.
