'GTA IV' poised to break entertainment sales record

www.news.com

"We are saying that the launch of this game is tracking to be one of the top three best-selling games", said Chris Olivera, vice president of corporate communications for GameStop, "not of just this year, but the top three games in (our) company's history".

Grand Theft Auto has been a cultural phenomenon of games.
This latest installment was released yesterday, and already there
have been arrests involving overzealous buyers. Is it the all-
out violence that attracts gamers, or the fact that you can get
away with murder, in a virtual world, assuming the identity of
the characters within?

the idea of plowing through innocent bystanders may seem horrific in real life but when played out in GTA (any of them) its fun as.

getting away with murder is what makes the game so great!

Never liked the games. I'd play for maybe an hour, get bored, stop playing. Sure its fun running over the old lady who's car I just stole with the car I just stole but you can only do that so many times.

For me it's just the sheer variety to be found in the game. It's like The Sims only with weapons, drugs, and whores. Last night I spent a good 3 hours playing the game and pretty much just exploring everything. Yes I beat some people up, jacked some cars, and stole some cash, but the core for the game is still the open world, go anywhere and do anything mechanics.

There is so much more to the game than just riding around(athough that is a big selling point). The missions are pretty cool and finding all the secrets and hidden little gems is fun as well. Did you know that you can jump out of a helicopter and land on the statue of Happiness, climb into the statue, take the stairs down into the statue and find the beating heart!!!! Cool little things like that to find.

I have to say about 5 hours into the game I finally realized I was playing the best game ever. I've never been so entertained and intrigued by a story-line, it's really like playing an awesome movie. But, last night when i was playing it froze on me. And, i turned it off... and im scared to turn it on again!

The game freezing up is a known issue, they still haven't discovered why it does that.

I like the characters and the overall theme of this one the best so far ! Fun game. Sit down and watch the t.v.'s in-game sometimes, it's a riot.

"Grand Theft Auto" sales top $500 mln in 1st week"

"Rival Electronic Arts Inc (ERTS.O), which is trying to buy it for $2 billion, or $25.74 per share."

It is estimated that GTA 4 will be 1 "BILLION" or more in sales-from just one game.

With that in mind, why would they sell for 2 billion when they are riding so very high.

(BTW, I think this is why E.A. wanted them to delay the release till after their hoped purchase.)

Those sales figures have to cause an increase in stock prices for take 2 (TTWO).
(opened 05/07/08 $26.53/share)
