I got this idea from another ATS member, so I can't take credit for it. If I could remember who suggested it, I would give him or her credit- it was mentioned in one of the recent food crisis threads. And if this has already been started or is in the wrong place I apologize.

I am not overly concerned with the rising cost of food- yet. The reason for this is that I shop at the same few stores every week and I only shop for myself- plus I am already used to paying more because I buy a lot of all natural and organic foods. However, I do know that certain staple items have gone up considerably, and many food banks are running low.

I save most of my grocery receipts, and have not noticed any difference in prices between December of 2007 and now. So I thought what we could do is post where we are, the store name, and the prices of goods people use a lot. Kind of hard to go through many pages of replies if we want to keep track, but at least we might have a way of helping other members who live close by find good deals, and also a record of prices over time. Because I often don't notice- again, I only shop for myself, so increases don't hit me as hard- I am sure for those of you with family to feed you notice it more often. So here we go:

I am in the Phoenix, Arizona area, and I shop at Trader Joes:

1/2 gallon organic whole milk $3.19
1 pt. organic sour cream $2.29
organic spaghetti pasta $1.19
spanish rice $1.69
8 oz. sweet corn $ .69
8 oz. organic peas $1.99 (my, that's a lot for peas)
organic eggs medium 1 doz $2.69
organic unsalted butter $4.79
Trader Joe's applesauce $1.49
frozen waffles (banana) $1.89
onion bagels $1.99
organic baked beans $1.29
organic chicken breasts $6.99/lb.

This would be easier if it were kept to a few basic universal items. Something like: 1 gallon whole milk, 1 dozen eggs, 1 loaf store brand sandwich bread, 1 large pizza no toppings, Six pack Budweiser, Pound of 90% ground beef...
