Secret Service Catch Mexican Official Nabbing White House BlackBerries!

www.foxnews.com

Whether he was up to no good or simply desperate to play BrickBreaker, a Mexican press attache was caught on camera by Secret Service pocketing several White House BlackBerries during a recent meeting in New Orleans, FOX News has learned.

Sources with knowledge of the incident said the official, whose first name is Rafael, took six or seven of the handheld devices from a table outside a special room in the hotel where the Mexican delegation was meeting with President Bush.

I hear him screaming "Diplomatic Immunity".

Why even bother chasing him down if you're going to let him go? Something fishy about this case. Its classical that these prefered officials have more right than American citizens.

I am reading this, picturing a Mexican walking the grounds of the White House, literally picking blackberries. I was wondering what the big deal was, who knew it was illegal to pick fruit at the white house?

Then I got it....

I gotta admit when I read the title I thought the guy was picking berries off a bush on the white house garden

We must be showing our age...

I have to admit, I thought 'Wow.. those Mexicans get across the border and they can't stop picking fruit'.

edit: It's really quite a serious event though. There would have been a lot of confidential information in those blackberries and phones, so this was really spying.

An honest mistake. He is so use to seeing his fellow Mexicans cross the border and receive everything for free that he thought the same of these devices. Wonder if he asked if there were the instruction books also, the one printed in three languages.

On a more serious note, wonder what interesting emails might have been found inside any of those blackberries.

I must admit when I saw BlackBerries I thought I was losing it. Then I thought noone would pick up on how throughout the entire article he describes it as blackberries.

I think this was a attempt to portray mexicans as fruit pickers. That was rude Fox News, funny
but rude.

Haha I too was all ready to shout that this was being blown out of proportion, until I realised the chap was pocketing electronic communications devices rather than fruit!

Definitely a thief or a spy.

Seems like a rather careless and unsecured situation. I suppose none of these devices may have had any meaningful info on them but I does make me wonder. Apparently all these political types trust each other.

Edit:

May be it is so that the secret service can go through the devices first and look for interesting tidbits.

Regardless of the humor thru this thread (thank you everyone
), this definitely is another one of those fishy, "Ooops! look how stupid and careless we are!!" incidents... flagged.

Now the whole damn Administration (and Congress, obviously) is trying to copy the "bumbling fool" approach of ol' G-dumb... why not...? The masses have 'bought it thus far
and have just blamed it all, so far, on him being an idiot.

(Oh... and I must admit... my mouth did start to water just a bit, thinking about a bowl full of sweet blackberries w/cream & sugar...)

This reminds me all those lost laptops missing by the DoD and those rifles from the AFT.

Somehow I'm not surprised. The real question that should be investigated is why. This does however speak volumes about Mexican officials IMO.

This could be a matter of embarrassment. If the White House officials don't have passwords set on their Blackberries, they might want as little publicity as possible. And they also wouldn't want to advertise the fact that these were left unguarded. It would be interesting WHAT was on the Blackberries.

But really have you EVER heard of a Mexican spy. Something fishy about this story. Funny but fishy

Hey what can I say, somebody's got to pick the freakin' fruit.
Don't be surprised if another one was also caught on camera sweeping and mopping too.

What can Brown do for you?

I dont know what to say? We ment no respect Alejandro.

Seriously, we should place security at our borders, airports and seaports.

As far as the Mexican stealing Blackberries. Security WAS at the table - cameras. That's why he didn't get away with them. No Problema!

....I couldnt resist.

Since the equipment was retrieved at the airport, after some length of elapsed time, I would say it is not the best of security. Plenty of time to access the data in the devices. Are they get the correct ones back?

I got to admit, I do love a good blackberry cobbler!
I know the white house takes it's gardening pretty seriously but I would like to know how many presidents in the past have been fond of cobbler and decided to pick a gallon or two to hand to the chef for dessert later...
