Interesting topic, and something to think about.

You describe the earth as a living organism, I can wonder that if oil is like blood in veins and it is extracted it would kill the body.

It does make sense that it would be problematic to suck all the oil out of the earth because it would leave hollow tunnels or empty places of some kind that could upset the natural balance.
