Russia May Join NATO before Ukraine

A conference entitled “Identification and Integration in the New Eurasia” was held by Georgetown University's Center for Eurasian, Russian and Eastern European Studies (CERES) in Washington on Monday. American experts discussed the NATO summit in Bucharest and its influence on relations between Russia and the West. Kommersant's Washington correspondent Dmitry Sidorov followed the discussion.

At the end of his talk, Gati analyzed the differences between Moscow and Washington. “American should understand that the Cold War and the crusade against Russia are over,” he said. “To improve relations with Russia, the U.S. should lower its level of enmity toward the country.” He said that that was necessary for pragmatic reasons, since “we have no options for changing Russian authoritarianism from without.”

What valid purpose would NATO have left for existing? It was established to protect Western Europe from Russian attack, just what rational purposecould NATO have with Russia as a member? This is very very suspicious.

This is pure BS. NATO won't have Russia as member. That's pure BS... unless the next president get rid of Putin and sell it's nation to the NWO.

Putin had only one quality, he was nationalistic, which our leaders in north america and europe are NOT.

Wont happen as long as there is a russian or chinese threat there is an excuse to spend billions of dollars on military and war. They are not a threat but like they said in the movie the good shepherd "russia is just rust with paint and poses no threat but you need it to look like a threat to keep building your military complex."

Seems logical to me.
Russia will eventually join and dominate NATO.
And to NATO America will become the new threat.
If we don't change our evil ways....baby.

Russia isn't going to join NATO!
It would be more likely that under Putin, you see the rise of the Soviet Union....probably called something like. The Democratic Soviet States or some other pretty name. But Soviet will be in the title somewhere.

Well of course they would change the name after they join.
I'm just saying it would be smart of Russia to do so.
America's clout is at an all time low.
And they could join and dominate NATO very easily in the coming years.
If we don't get our economy together and we keep destabilizing countries.
I could see something like this happening.....really.

If I'm not mistaken, the Soviet Union tried this way back when NATO was being formed. Stalin figured that he should naturally be involved if Europe was going to get a mutual defense pact going. However the purpose was indeed to defend against the Soviet Union in particular and the USSR was rejected on the grounds that it'd just be a subversion of NATO.

Funny how history repeats itself.
