It's strange how times change, and the natural female form no longer seems appreciated. If Norma Mortenson walked into a modeling agency today... well... if they were feeling "nice" they'd tell her to get implants and lose 20-30 lbs before she dared to come back; and if not, they'd simply laugh and close the door in her face. :shk:

No, her form - except for the legs - was just fine.

What I am saying is that the image that so many people seem to be literally obsessing over is just that: an image, the rudiments of which (the totally dismal childhood, thwarted motherhood etc. myths) were fabricated by herself, and later turned into a literal pop "icon" by Andy Warhol. The publication of Norman Mailer's biography in the early 1970s only fueled the phenomenon.

But, naturally, it's perfectly alright for anyone to admire anyone they wish.
Even if it is a cardboard image.

I realize that. I was simply agreeing with the fact that "Marilyn Monroe" wasn't a real person; merely a fictitious pop icon. Norma Jeane Mortenson (and later Baker) was a person, and her size 14 body wouldn't be "acceptable" by many of todays "standards".

I'd tend to disagree with the notion that Warhol made her a pop icon though. He may have added the finishing touches to the process, but I'd credit Tom Kelley's photoshoot for actually making her a pop icon. That photoshoot, and its appearance in the first Playboy, were two of the primary catalysts of the sexual revolution.
