PM not attending Olympics opening

Prime Minister Gordon Brown will not attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, Downing Street says.

However, he will be at the closing ceremony when the Olympic baton will be passed to London.

A spokeswoman said Mr Brown had never planned to attend the ceremony and was not boycotting the Games

Who else is going to jump on the bandwagon then?

He will however be attending the closing ceremony as Britain are hosting the 2012 games.

He passed it off saying it would be a waste of taxpayers money.

Our Australian Prime Minister is not sure yet if he is attending, but he said if he doesn’t, it’s not because of a boycott, it’s because he’s “very busy” lol.

actually... the next olympics are in Vancouver...2010.. would make more sense to send the torch there as opposed to london.

I hope the Canadian pm passes on the opening as well.

That is the winter Olympics.

Britain is holding the next summer Olympics in 2010.
