Walls Close in on Phelpes (Westboro Baptist Church)

cjonline.com

A federal judge in Maryland on Thursday ordered liens on the Westboro Baptist Church building and the Phelps-Chartered Law office.

If the case presided over by U.S. District Court Judge Richard D. Bennett is upheld by an appeals court, the church, at 3701 S.W. 12th, and the office building, at 1414 S.W. Topeka Blvd., could be obtained by the court and sold, with the proceeds being applied toward $5 million in damages Bennett imposed on church members for picketing a military funeral.

Haha...Well this just gives hope to the law of karma holding some people responsible for reprehensible behavior. These are the idiots who have been disrupting and picketing fallen soldiers funerals, and spew hatred and intolerance towards gays, etc..

Westboro Baptist members regularly picket funerals of members of the U.S. armed forces, contending the deaths are God's punishment for the country's support of homosexuals.

I hope this goes through!

These people aren't Christians, they just hate and are using Christ to hide behind.

You are absolutely correct R. Still, hateful, ignorant, low class, sociopaths should have the right to express their views in public without censorship.

Freedom of speech should not be controlled no matter how goofy and unpopular it is.

There are many on these boards that I passionately disagree with, but I will defend their right to plead their case till I die. I hope they would extend the same courtesy to me though we may be ideological foes.

I actually agree with you on 99.99% of this...But I don't know if people trampling all over a dead soldier's funeral and not letting their grieving families honor them in peace is taking things to an EXTREMIST point of view on the free-speech issue. To me what they are doing is beyond offensive. I can't argue with your point of freedom of speech, but the context of what they are doing and around what circumstances is enough to make ANYONE sickened IMO.

I just very strongly disagree with anyone protesting at a funeral of one of the USA finest.

On that "Great and Terrible Day" things will be explained to these people.

Let us all remember that our "Freedom of Speech" is only protected when it does not infringe on the freedoms of our other, equally as worthy, citizens...

The same applies to ALL of our freedoms....

As much as the idiots as WBC had the right to exercise their freedom of speech, the mourners at the funerals had a more specific right to gather and commemorate their losses.

The right of the mourners was more specific simply because it was their function and not that of the "Hate Church."

The Hate Church was there specifically in response to the gathering of the mourners and so had a much reduced claim on their civil rights, legally the actions of WBC infringed on the rights of the mourners...

Constitutional Law my friends....

Yes but picketing someones FUNERAL is NOT free speech and not right under any circumstances.
That way crosses the line and I am glad they are getting called to account for their hatred.

And just in general no hate speeches should ever be tolerated.
Need I point out the events between 1930 and 1945 in Europe?
