He said he wanted to discuss things with the other blacks in the court room. Where is AL Sharpton and Jessie Jackson now or do we have to go to the other side. Bad thing is what other side is there Imus and Rush Limbaugh.

Maybe he didn't want his audience of blacks to feel like he was siding with the white man with the whites present?

He said he wanted to talk honestly with the blacks in the courtroom that they were doing things to themselves by committing crimes, etc. Basically, he was saying that the blacks were bringing down their own culture by doing reprehensible things. By not having a white audience, I can see how the blacks would give a better ear that he was being honest and not putting on a show for white people.

I don't see anything particularly wrong with what he did. It is his courtroom.

Sounds like a racist move to me. Do you have anymore information on this? Did they have a standard for how black you had to be? How about Obama or Tiger Woods? hmmmmm

He could of cleared the court room of everybody. Or asked for a private discussion in his chambers, but to say all whites must leave my court room isn't the right way to do it. I would like to see the court transcripts from the room if there is any.

A different source on the story. From statement on this site I understand what he did but he should of done it a little different.

"I came out and saw the defendants, about 99.9 percent Afro-Americans, and some point time I excused some of the lawyers, most of them white, and said to the young people in here 'What in the world are you doing with your lives,'" he told WSB-TV Channel 2 reporter JaQuitta Williams.

Arrington said he thought his message might have more power if it was delivered to a blacks-only audience.

"I didn't want them to think I was talking down to them; trying to embarrass them or insult them; be derogatory towards them and I was just saying 'Please get yourself together,'" he said.

If people are actually wondering whether the Judge's action were racist, simply replace "Whites" with "Blacks" or "Jews". Of course, it's racist.

Good one stikkinikki.

I really don't see a problem with it, as it stands by itself. The judge was trying to do the right thing. But if the shoe were on the other foot there would be holy hell to pay and we all know it.

I think people just need to accept a certain level of racism but not in a derogatory way as in prejudice based on race. To be honest, I'm really sick of everyone trying to be just like everyone else. White trying to be black, black trying to be white, women trying to be just like men as if it were the only route to equality. I think we need to embrace the fact that we all come from different backrounds, have different heritages, etc., instead of ridiculing those who point out differences in a non-prejudicial way. We must recognize our differences for what they are, before we can ever hope to meet on common ground.

But that's the point. He wanted just the blacks to be his audience and give them the message that they were bringing down their own house. He did not want white people present as it would make them suspicious of the judge, as if to say "whose side are you on".

I think it would have raised more eyebrows to call only the blacks into a private meeting.

Either way, the judge is right, and it doesn't just apply to blacks. It also applies to any race. The ones who seem to get the shaft are usually the ones who are doing it to themselves.

[sarcasm]
Yeah, because when TEH WHITES MAN is around, telling the black youth to pull theirself together is a humiliating and embarrassing experience. It makes TEH WHITES MAN feel like they have put TEH BLACKS MAN in his place as inferior. I'm sure the white lawyers would have just given each other a victorious grin and wink, only to give each other a high-five and slap on the ass after seeing a black judge try to give a little reason to some black youths - boy, if that happened, it sure would be embarrasing!
[/sarcasm]

This judge is an idiot who obviously has some kind of twisted stereotypical view of white people. He's trying to pass it off like some kind of anti-racist.

I'm not at all being racist (just like the judge), but....

Can all the white people leave this thread immediately... on second thought, all the black people leave too. Only Asians can stay; I need to have a dicussion with them.

Look, my brothers of the Asian persuasion - look what you are doing to yourselves! You are brainwashing yourselves on conspiracy sites to the point that you can justify a black judge who utilizes methods of racial segregation to make a point. I would looooovvveeee to hear the outcry from the NAACP if a white judge did this to black lawyers. This judge should be terminated from his post. He may have had good intentions, but he definitely displayed BAD JUDGMENT.

Again, I'm not being racist - I just didn't want the whites and blacks to feel that I was putting on a show for them - they might have wrote it off as a victory for them against the Asians.

Come on Asians! Get yourselves together!

This isn't the first time Judge Arrington has acted inappropriately in his courtroom. In 2005 five he was accused of terroristic threatening when he allegedly brandished a baseball bat at a defendant. Why nonsense like this is allowed to go on is beyond me. I thought the bailiffs were responsible for court room security.

Don't mess with a judge who keeps a baseball bat in his chambers.

When Fulton County Superior Court Judge Marvin S. Arrington Sr. was told a domestic violence defendant appearing at a bond hearing had threatened the court staff, he told his staff, "You all go back there and get my Hank Aaron baseball bat."

The defendant, 36-year-old Gary L. Carroll, and his lawyer, Dennis R. Scheib, claim the judge "brandished" the bat, resulting in a "terroristic threat."

This one sided rasicsm is getting to be old. Incidents like this just keep the racism pot stirred.

I'd like to have a white pride parade (as in being proud of who I am...Not White Power) but guess what it would be considered rasicist. But the Blacks, and Mexicans and Asians can and at no piont is it ever rasicst.

I think there should be a White Music awards show too (you know where only whites get awards) Oh wait thats rasicst.

Why the double standards? Until this ends we will always have a problem.

Ben,

Just reverse the 2 parties and see if it is still fair.

Black lawyers and all blacks were removed from the courtroom so the white people could talk about the white community.

I can see the lawsuits flying already.

It was fully raceist, but since a black did it, it is not raceist???

B.S.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This shouldn't be a big deal but it is and that's because there is a double standard in place.

The most glaring example: A black guy is mentored by a racist wing nut church leader and even when this info makes it to the mainstream (long after it should have) it causes a mere blip in his presidential campaign. Had this man been white, this issue would have buried him long ago and he would never get the chance to run for anything.

As some have said, until this double standard changes, nothing else will. Why can't we treat everyone the same, publicly, privately, personally and professionally?

Kicking out the whites and talking to the blacks only audience sure sends a message about diversity in a court. He sure didn't do a good job. Imagine me kicking out the girls in my classroom because I want to discuss boy stuff with the guys so we can joke and snicker behind the girls' back.

There is nothing racist about this. The man simply wanted to speak one on one as a black man to the black public.

What he spoke to them about was changing their lives.

So long as there is a demographic that shows more black males in prison and more black males being arrested for violent crimes, there will always be a reason for black judges to speak about this with black people.

This kind of message can only come from a black person who has had the black experience. Racism is not an abstract thing. All people are not equal in the sense that they all have the same cultural experiences. Black people have, to a large degree, a much different cultural experience than that of white people.

You cannot expect that everyone will be able to relate to everyone. This is why we have Boy scouts and Girl Scouts in two different groups. This is why we have hispanic based missionaries, and black based missionaries etc.

The only way someone could see this as racism, is if they didn't understand these facts.

The blacks need to learn how to get the HECK over themselves and realize that they were created equal and the only one who is holding them back our thier OWNSELVES !!!!!!!!

Actually, that is exactly what happens in highschools. Boys are asked to leave while the girls are talked to about their periods etc.

It makes total sense. There was no snickering behind the boys backs. It was simply required to speak to a target audience.
