Dallas club where girl, 12, stripped will keep license

The mere fact that a 12-year-old girl danced nude at a northwest Dallas strip club isn't enough to close its doors.

That's because the city ordinance that regulates sexually oriented businesses does not allow authorities to revoke the license of such a business for employing someone under the age of 18.

The sixth-grader danced at Diamonds Cabaret over a two-week period late last year, authorities say. They also say they found a 17-year-old girl working in the club in January.

The mother of the 12-year-old says she believes the club must have known her daughter was underage.

"I think they just didn't care," her mother said. "She's 12, but she's got the body of a 20-year-old. All they were thinking about was the money she could bring in."

My god 12, what was that little girl thinking! 12! That is wrong! I think that the business owner needs to be charged with something on this. What about the parents of the little girl? What the bloody hell were they thinking?!? "Oh my daughter is at band camp?"

What about your accountability for your daughters whereabouts mommy? What if this child was prostituting herself? Would mommy blame the Johns? Wheres daddy in all of this mess?

My god. Sometimes the world is such a sick place!

Okay, I can maybe see how if the 17 year old they also found there had lied about her age, that the club could be forgiven for thinking she was of legal age. But a 12 year old? Come on. That's got to break some law that they can hit these guys with.

And yeah, like whatukno, I have to wonder. What did the parents think she was doing at the time, working at McDonalds? When I was 12, my parents always knew where I was, and they would have crapped themselves silly if I were gone that often without telling them what I was doing. (I'm assuming the girl lied to her parents, since surely they wouldn't have condoned this)

There has to be some kind of law against exploitation or something. How is 'not knowing' (even if they really were stupid enough not to know) that she was underage any different than if someone had had sex with a minor and not known they were a minor? They can still be charged with statutory rape. There has to be something similar here. At least I hope; someone needs to make an example out of this club, because I'll bet this won't be the last time something like this happens.
