Can I make a suggestion at this point to the moderators. As this seems to be a growing concern reading this and other threads, should we the members be using the 'ALERT' button in situations of blatantly misleading threads, threads in obviously incorrect forums or doubled up threads? Or is the alert button just for complaints abusive or uneccessary behaviour? If this is the case maybe we can we have a new button without a form attached to just get the attention of mederators? I understand the mods are already very busy so maybe this could bring to light some threads that slip through the cracks?
Just an idea.

I understand people's concerns about 'fake' postings,
but heh.. this is democracy at it's best.
It's a little rich when somebody can say " I believe..."
and then someone else says "heh! that sounds silly,
ban him"

Sieve the chaff from the wheat and move on.
It really is a free world in here.

Yea, i noticed

thats why i felt compeld to sign on and say something , despite my horrible spelling......

i have a feeling that the propaganda machine is on overdrive, now even good ol A.T.S. is getting hit, and with it i've noticed also that ya'll are not letting it slide a whole lot.....GOOD! pokemon? aliens paved my driveway?! W.T.F.!!

trust me, i'm deep into the alien agenda, but what the hell? the closer we get to discloser on some good level, the more people post crazy crap that makes the whole thing look goofy.

come on don't you nsa guys have better things to do than make up dumb crap?

and as for other people....don't come on and insult "80%" of the community, if you've been reading on and off for 2 years, why would you even begin to think that people wouldn't take offense to that, and besides, you should get that we are all patriots, thats why we are here

exept for the NSA guys....they just suck

Are we too lazy to flag or star, you aked? No. It's just so danged impossible to UN-star and UN flag when you find you've been duped.

You added, "There could even be a case made that this very thread is nothing more than a unthought out adventure into complaining for the sake of complaining, and therefore ought be deleted as being unworthy of the high intellectual standards....."

Funnily enough, I don't think this thread would qualify under those criteria. There would have to be some other motive for removing it, something perhaps of a more ... conspiritorial nature?

Well, I do agree that lots of genuinely interesting posts get, as you say, "covered" by posts that some of us find... ehm, shall we say less than interesting? ; )

It's bad enough (but unavoidable, I suppose) that so much of the interest depends on the title of the thread...
(I for one tend to ignore posts with overabundant punctuation of the exclamatory kind - although that, too, can be unjust, and there have been exceptions.)

Maybe it's because of the point-awarding system. In fact, I am pretty sure that is one of the main reasons. After all, the system is devised precisely to encourage posting, right? Well, that's the down side of it.

I could do perfectly well without points.
But that's just my opinion.

Another way of visually weeding out the more "outrageous" posts would be to enforce a greater visual separation of the different boards.

Surely you mean "at its worst"?

There no need to unduly idolise "democracy".
We all know that it's far from perfect - but the best thing so far.
AND viceversa.
(Homo sapiens indeed...

I wouldnt say fake or false posts

I would say however that in the last few months there have been more and more ridiculous posts with no evidence to back up what they are saying. Some people have also been avoiding ATS due to this. Its a sad reality

Not sure what the problem is? Maybe too many attention seekers are using the site

I would have to agree, many people (too many) are attention seeking.
Also some may be trying to explain their theories but mabye going over the top and exaggerating alot to get attention. Mabye not just attention they might do it to seem clever. I also agree having no evidence to back it up doesnt make it any better.

I guess everyone wants to know something intresting.

There may be many here, who would say that
I myself, tend to 'joke' and 'fool around' on the
subject of Ufo's.
It's true, I personally believe that most people
here are searching for the answer of who they are
themselves. It manifests itself in this constant looking
for proof of life elswhere.

So I think that people who don't take the subject
seriously, or folk who have 'stumbled' onto the site,
are just yanking the collective ATS chain for fun.

That said, the question remains... how long as this site
existed and in that time, as any evidence surfaced that's
been brought to the public's attention?
Stong enough evidence that Governments have had to sit
up and take notice, that countries have changed policies about
the alledged phenomena and that the world in general now
search the heavens?

Nothing yet, just fuzzy photos, typed accounts of bizarre
behaviour and sites covered in advertising yearning to
continue the search.

Why? Whats so funny about ufology? I think "joking around" is a sign of ignorance and immaturity.

True to some extent but I think we are more interested in studying nature, the universe and the strong possibility of life in our galaxy. What happens around us is more important than who we think we are because "nature" influences us in ways we have an extremely hard time trying to understand.

Also known as trolling and should be punished.

You must be kidding. The evidence is all around us...books, tv, internet, magazines, etc. Why ignore it? Just because the mainstream media and governments have choosen to ignore the topic(s) does not mean they are ignorant. In fact the opposite is true...they know almost everything and pretend to know little.

But I am not going to jump to the 'governments have an evil agenda' theory because I think its rather silly. All indications point to a gradual 'one-on-one' disclosure rather than a 'presidential address to the nation' disclosure which is probably the best way to handle it. A large majority might indeed get confused/shocked to the point of reacting violently. I will leave it at that!

This is a highly suspect reductionist approach!

I would love it if you could get you mum to post on ATS. She could be like a common sense version of Sleeper.
