Iraq forces battle Basra militias

Heavy fighting has been raging in Basra as thousands of Iraqi troops battle Shia militias in the southern city.

So the British pulled out of Basra and as I expected the region has erupted into violence. I'm surprised It's taken this long for the warring factions to make their move. The Mehdi Army are flexing their muscles and are threating a nationwide campaign.

It was only a matter of time before Moqtada Sadr decided to call of his truce. We could be seeing a very blood summer on both fronts.
