Colombian Soldiers blamed for wrongful deaths

GRANADA, Colombia, March 21 (UPI) -- Colombian soldiers are being blamed for killing homeless or unemployed men as a result of pressure to show progress in their battle against leftist rebels.
Human rights officials have blamed the soldiers for a number of unsolved deaths -- referred to as "false positives" -- in recent months, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
The Colombian military has received several billion dollars from the United States during the last several years for its battle against leftist rebel groups.

Am I reading this right? We have been giving them billions of dollars for the fight against rebel troops? Then the Colo. military kills innocents. So basically we are putting pressure on the Colombians to advance in their war against the leftist rebels and they kill innocent people just to make us believe they are actually making progress in their efforts. I think the Colombian military is using our money for other purposes and are desperate to show something for it. The thing that kills me is that we keep supporting it and giving them money. Why are we giving money to them for a war? Don't we have our own war going on and shouldn't that money be concentrated on our efforts? This is crazy. IMO, it's got to have something to do with the drug trade. I guess those US interests are more important to protect. More money down the toilet.
I also want to know what human rights officials are going to do about it. Probably nothing. It seems a lot of innocent people are dying lately, whether it be in Colombia, Iraq, Kenya, etc.

I know...

The ones that sympathize with the FARC, this campaign originates in the FARC camps in the colombian jungle, for the first time in history a democratic, people supported government (86% last week), is beating them to pieces, and what is their defense?, the socialist "combination of all forms of struggle", which in this case means: make the international media publish slanderous false statemets such as these, based on "human rights officials", makes me laugh.

It is funny how you never get the "official name of the officials" whenever stories like these are released.
I have always wondered who this group of people who oversee global human rights consists of.
I guess it depends on which part of the world the incident is happening and what interests we have in the whole thing.

Absolutely. After America flew into Cuba to fight Reagans war on drugs - we took over the trade. This is common knowledge by now (somewhat) - every major drug operative that the CIA and DEA have 'stopped' they have actually adopted and continued behind the scenes.

Shut down the largest exporter of Cocaine and what do you get? The largest supply of Cocaine. Put it out on the street and in 15 years trillions of dollars of black-market drug money goes funnelling through dark-ops government reserves

This is, I suppose, why we continue to finance criminals all over the world.

You are right. I guess we really know why that CIA plane had all that Cocaine in it. Or was it the FBI? Regardless, we sure do LOOOOOVE Colombia don't we.
