Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge

Comparatively poor graphics but I had so much fun with my allies with that game.

The IFV had 17 mix and match combo's how's that for versatility.

There are so many great games that have given me a lot of enjoyment over the years (been gaming since the late 80s), but if I have to choose just one, it would have to be The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

A huge sandbox game that you can lose a huge amount of time to without even touching the main storyline. The main storyline itself is great, but some of the side quests, like progressing through the Assassin's Guild (Dark Brotherhood) are almost like entire games of their own.

Features voice-overs from two of my favourite actors: Sean Bean (Boromir, Lord of the Rings) and Patrick Stewart (Cpt Jean Luc Picard, Star Trek).

The thing that truly makes this game stand out above all others though is the huge (and I mean huge) amount of community-made modifications for it. You can make the game look even better with texture packs, add lots of new quests, characters, weapons and clothes, and even completely change the gameplay. This keeps the game fresh, even now, 4 years on from it's release.

Favourite game of all time? Well my 2 cents - I guess that can only be the one I find myself replaying the most, so for me it's Transport Tycoon! Loved it ever since I first played it on a PC mag CD in the 90's, loved Deluxe and have more recently been enjoying OpenTTD which has some great improvements!

But it's hard not to love thousands of computer games, gah!!

Other favourites that come to mind on console, though I don't have the delights of xbox 360 live or ps3: San Andreas, Tiger Woods [2004], Blades of Steel, Mario, Duck Hunt.

PC: RCT3, JP:OG, LBA2, Fate of Atlantis, Sam N Max, The Dig, Broken Sword II. Grim Fandango was definitely awesome, but I had a bad experience (the CDs took 20 minutes to load each scene, may have been the technology of my 586 back then - so I really need to play it again)

And of course some free games by my friends! Space Babies! lol. Trilby's Notes, Ben Jordan cases 6 and 7, Nelly Cootalot, Art of Theft to name a few.

Peace!

lol, Being a 52 year old woman I suppose this is going to sound a little odd...I am not a big gamer, but when I do play, my favorite for playing with friends is Americas Army. I love my clan mates. When I just want my mind to wonder a bit aimlessly I like Simcity4. Can't tell you how many cities I have built and destroyed trying to build the perfect city!
I saw someone mention Silent Assassin, I liked that game a lot as well. That is my 2 cents~ Remember when pinball was a dime??!!!!

Favourite game of all time is a difficult choice. There are numerous games that were my favourite at the time played like:-

Ace Combat 4 - PS1
Medal of Honour - first PS1 version
Alien Trilogy - PS1 Excellent music and atmosphere very scary.
Age of Empires - PS2
Gran Turismo - PS2
Deux Ex - PS2 ( close contender for favourite )
All Grand Theft Auto

Some of these games are years old so tastes and expectations change as you get older. Now a days we expect excellent graphics, music atmosphere. You know you have got a good game when you dont want to finish it.

I find it impossible to nominate a favourite game off all time so my list is all of the above but especially :-

The Elder Scroll IV-Oblivion
Fallout 3
Assasins Creed 2

My big problem is the more I think about it the longer the list gets

I can't name just one, but these are some real stand outs for me:

[Arcade Shooters]
- Virtua Cop I & II
- House of the Dead I + II
- Time Crisis II & III (first one was way too difficult)

[Sega Megadrive]
- NBA JAM
- Mortal Kombat II
- Streets of Rage II

[Playstation]
- Tony Hawk's Skateboarding
- 2Extreme
- Die Hard Trilogy
- Mortal Kombat Trilogy

[N64]
- Goldeneye 007 (One of the most Flawless ever made)
- WCW/NWO Revenge (This was REVOLUTIONARY in many ways)

[Xbox]
- FIFA 2003 (Game engine, physics, fun-factor and difficulty were well tuned)
- Halo I + II (revolutionary in many ways)
- Rocky

[PC Games]
- Half Life 2 (another game that is close to perfection)
- Team Fortress 2
- World of Warcraft
- Street Fighter 4 (PC version)

----

Probably forgetting lots but those are what come to mind at the moment.

Team Fortress 2 on the PC is the best game I have played, with Counter Strike Source and Battlefield 2 as runners up...

I'm glad OpenTTD was mentioned in this thread. There's so many games that are overlooked that are true gems. I could list a lot of mainstream games too but lets return to some true favourites:

Gothic and especially Gothic 2 are truly awesome.
It helps that I am German and could enjoy them in their original language but iirc the English voices were good too.

Homeworld.
I remember going through the campaign and getting absolutely absorbed in it. I especially love the cutscenes between missions and how they were slightly animated black and white drawings. Added real style and believability. Fantastic.

X-Com.
It's a real favourite for a reason and I've had many hours of gleefully renaming my troops and laughing out loud when a close friend gets shot in the face from an ambushing alien. Tehehe... also looking forward to the new XCOM.

Knights of the Old Republic.
A bioware triumph and amazing fun. Nuff said.

Dwarf Fortress.
It bears mentioning that Dwarf Fortress is something special. It takes a long time to get used to and learn but when you do the possibilities are endless. How do I take care of those migrants? Should I catapult them into an open volcanoe? Or should I stick with my chamber of drowning? Ridiculous game.

Mass Effect 1 and 2.
One of the best science fiction stories to indulge in. Very atmospheric and the dialogue, characters and setting are excellent. ME2 improves considerably on the first. I hope the trend keeps for the final part in the trilogy.

There are many others but I do want to go to bed today still...

All the best,
T
