a friend of mine is a pilot and he was flying solo from Philly to Florida for the first time in his plane and he was out over the ocean and he could
no longer see land and he started to get a bit freaked out so he started heading west to see where he was. As he started to see land he hear he was
entering restricted airspace and he got a bit more scared and didn't respond as he wanted to figure out where he was. He flew west some more and the
chatter on the radio was of the sort that should have alerted him to respond but the fear was still working so he ignored things like "we will not
hesitate to shoot you down." etc.
He then found himself between two fighters and that was when he realized he was in DC airspace. He got on the radio, apologized profusely, explained
his situation etc and he was escorted out of the dc area and he was back on his way. The last thing he heard was the price tag to the taxpayers for
his stupidity in not responding.
This was back in the late 90's
