Zombies Are Real

I remember in the beginning of the night of the living dead it said i was based on actual facts.I never seen a horror movie like that post something like that before.

Our world is chock full of zombies. You just need to understand what comprises a zombie, and the nature of the zombie.

That information card at the beginning of Night of the Living Dead was there because the movie was intended to have a pseudo documentary feel to it. The movie had to be shot very inexpensively, thus the black and white, the lack of any kind of steady-cam, etc.

It wasn't actually based on real events. I think we would all remember the stories of a zombie outbreak somewhere in the world.

Also, the OPs insistence on the idea of an Egyptian zombie plague is ridiculous. The Egyptians were rather serious about their recordings of history and legends. If there IS archeological suggestions in the Egyptian writings to suggest such a thing (which I have never heard of) it is more than likely mythology.

As for the idea of evidence because of "claw marks" found in tombs... servants were often buried with their masters, sometimes alive. Never mind the idea possibility of death being incorrectly diagnosed... especially in a time when medical knowledge was not exactly cutting edge.

The idea of zombies having walked the planet at anytime in history is ridiculous. The human body does NOT re-animate after death. True, there are legends and myths across the world of resurrections, but that is very different than the idea of a zombie.

If we take the idea that Jesus of Nazareth actually truly brought Lazarus back from the dead, that does not make him "undead" or "dead alive". And for the record, I don't believe that story in the least... but even if I did, I would recognize the distinction between a resurrection and a re-animation.

Why is it that whenever the subject of zombies comes up no one talks about whether or not, in this current political/social climate, the methods of dealing with an outbreak would be sufficient?

I'd love to see George Bush addressing the nation to inform them that they are no longer safe in their homes, that food and water supplies have been comprimised, and that your one saving grace is that everyone else is too busy trying to deal with exactly the same problem to give a crap about seizing territory.

Such films as Dawn of the Dead and Return of the living dead (to a much lesser extent) serve to highlight our social inability to welcome new ideas and news possibilities with open arms, even if that new idea or possibility is working in a way that is constructive and peaceful (oh, sure it's gorey, but once you see past the special effects you begin to understand the truth).

Perhaps... Social Fiction would be a better word, rather than Science?

At their cores, Science Fiction and Fantasy (in the modern sense) are all about social commentary. The first science fiction novel was written in the aftermath of the French Revolution. Gulliver's Travels is a fantastical story with science fiction elements and is entirely a critique on Enlightenment England.

Zombie movies in particular are commentaries on society. Night of the Living Dead tackles race, Dawn of the Dead deals with the rise of commercialism, 28 days Later is ripe with themes of overpopulation, the global economy, etc. But at their cores, zombie movies are about how in a terrible situation, we revert to our basest senses. Really, there is no difference between a zombie and the character trapped in the mall avoiding the zombies, both are driven purely by animalistic instincts, to eat and survive, respectively.

anti-tyrant and mezzanine both get stars from me! you have turned this thread into something interesting (for me at least).

i tend to shy away from pointless gory movies (seem to bombarded here lately by them) bc gore in and of itself does not appeal to me, pleasure wise or otherwise. however, i have always endured gore in films when it serves it purpose for the message intended.

i have never watched the zombie movies mentioned by you bc i always placed them in the "pointless gore fest" catagory. never thought to look beyond the gore and see a message. will have a couple "new to me" movies to watch now and am interested to view them in light of what you both have said.

Why should we spend time discussing whether or not we are adequately prepared for an impossible situation? If a zombie outbreak DOES occur, which I think is about as likely as the oceans turning to blood, we're screwed. Regardless of the social / political clime.

And even if we did prepare for it, we'd still be screwed because we'd be dealing with a massive event the likes of which have never happened before, and that we have no knowledge of how to contain.

I like your point, but I feel that it's moot.

Well, Return of the living dead has always been about the Gore, there is no denying that, no matter how much the creator wanted to he went totally over-blown with the Gore, and ended up working with it.

A great many zombie films have characters in them that are not seen in other types of genre, for the single reason that those characters are not normally seen as movie material.

It's rare that you'll see a dry, gritty character in anything other than a zombie film.

In a way, zombie films are more real than the super-ficial reality that the rest of the media forces down our throats, at least with zombies you get to see that the world is not full of funny or tempermental people with no real abilities other than being able to run their mouths off.

Perhaps you're right, but it's a frightening truth.

When faced by issues such as global warming and over-population, one has to wonder whether or not anyone really is 'on-top' of the situation.

the zombie survival guide teaches you basically how to survive in a zombie out break ad keeps you from resorting to a completely instinct driven existence

any way a good/mostly accurate movie is the zombie diaries

its a pretty convincing "clover field style" movie but the ending is disappointing and there seems to be no source of the outbreak and if anyone dies they become a zombie

To get back on topic, the archeological article has interesting albeit not definitive and highly unlikely to prove zombie existence in ancient Egypt. It is none the less curious. The surprising number of decapitated bodies along with some documentation by the Egyptians about the decapitations tends to suggest a small zombie outbreak, if of course zombies were at all possible. The article only names the Solanum virus because it is easier to reference a fictional virus than to come up with something new.

THIS is a very important to of those who think they know about zombies. Heres the truth zombies are formed by a virus or disease such as like rabies that makes u go crazy and wants to attack people. Like brain PARASITES make you a little over edge. Reports of strange behavior out of some people have happend. zombies don't walk slowly some may limp but thats about it the rest they are very active. they run, jump, crawl, swim, open stuff, and break right through glass and old wood. basically like humans but stronger. You always want some sort of weapon in your house in case if the infected were to start a outbreak all over the world. If u have mostly no sort of weapon that will damage a human skull that would be bad. HERE ARE SOME VERY IMPORTANT TIPS TO SURVIVE!!!!!! Have a gun of some sort, a little group, check each one of your group members EVEN IN THE BAD PLACES lol. If they have some sort of bite or scratch deep in the skin kill them IMMEDIATELY OR THROW THEM OUT IN A HERD OF ZOMBIES so those are some things
