Finding Accurate True North - The Ancient Way

Many have marvelled at how the Great Pyramid of Giza is so accurately aligned to the cardinal directions - indeed, to within 3/60ths of 1 degree of error. Even more have wondered how ancient peoples - without any advanced technology - could have achieved such an extraordinary feat of precision engineering.

Well, with a wooden frame, some horsehair string and a handful of beads, I invented the 'Astracus', a device for measuring star asterisms and for finding true north (or south) to a high degree of accuracy.
