Goddess Retires Aged 11

Nepal’s ’living goddesses’ is to to retire at the old age of 11. Sajani Shakya had her goddess status removed, then reinstated following her breaking with century old tradition, and leaving Nepal to travel to the United States has been considered a goddess since the age of 2.

I was hoping for details about her pension plan...

I have to wonder how serious the Nepalese people are about this, because, frankly... after reading the article, it doesn't strike me like a sound or particularly profound spiritual practice.

Vanitas, they really do take this stuff seriously. In India they worship a child who has physical deformity that make it looks like he has a tail.

This pretty little girl obviously didn't live a normal life in one hand, but in the other hand, she got better treatment than she would have if she hadn't been named a goddess. To each is own..

Oh can't you see the light in her eyes and smile? She has been groomed in the most spiritual ways to honor the past present and future of her beliefs and people. Kind of a individual though, she must be very special, I for one would like to hear more about her.

Oh, I have no doubts that her life probably wouldn't have been nearly as good so far, WorldWatcher.

It's just that it seems so blindly unjust.

If they need to "worship" a human, a child - why not worship children in general?
ALL of them, regardless of how pretty (or tail-endowed ; ) they are.


Then again, that's humankind for you...

And just because people live near the Himalayas, it doesn't mean they are more enlightened than the rest of the world, I suppose.
