Kosovo! The US of A and some of its allies have recognized it. This is a blatant violation of international law and the sovereignty of a country, and recognizes the ‘right’ of the US and its allies to decide the fate of other nations arbitrarily.

In contrast, Russia has reiterated its support to Belgrade in its stand off with the West over Kosovo and has said in clear terms that Serbia is a single state with jurisdiction over its entire territory.

Following the 11 week bombing of Yugoslavia by NATO in 1999, which Russia strongly opposed, Moscow persuaded Serbia to withdraw from Kosovo, conveying a solemn promise by the West that a NATO occupation of the enclave would never lead to its separation from Serbia.

Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 which gave the UN jurisdiction over Kosovo, had explicitly rejected Kosovo’s declaration of independence by reaffirming “the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia”, of which Serbia is the successor state.

So what changed? Why has the West led by the U.S. gone back on its word?

Moscow was stung by the West’s treachery, lead by the U.S. and has vowed to go as far as Belgrade is prepared to in opposing Kosovo’s independence.

Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in one of the press conferences immediately after U.S. recognition of Kosovo, “It is for the first time after WWII that a United Nations member-state is being dismembered in violation of all principles and rules that have been applied till now to the settlement of territorial conflicts.”

Is the U.S. asserting a new model in international relations when a group of allied countries enforce a solution by-passing the U.N.?

Look at the way they have blatantly gone about it:

* In 1999, the US and NATO decided to bomb Yugoslavia, without U.N. approval.

* In 2003 the US went to war against Iraq in defiance of the U.N.

* In 2008 the U.S. and its NATO allies annexed Kosovo from Serbia in an outrageous breach of the promises made earlier by the them, and U.N. decisions.

This may open a Pandora’s box, setting off separatism and territorial conflicts in Europe and other parts of the world. (Probably in the very heart of the U.S. itself! How about Montana? What if it declares independence? Would the U.S. allow it to secede?)

And in what is standard doctrine of the U.S, an extremist group, the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), which spearheaded the Kosovar’s fight for independence from Serbia, was on the U.S. list of Islamist terrorist groups with links to Al Qaeda! They were removed from the list when the U.S. needed an excuse to go to war against Serbia!

Double standards galore! Now they’re terrorists. Now they’re not! Well it all depends on whether it suits U.S policy or not! But the arbitrary manner in which the U.S and some of its allies have gone about the business of deciding the fate of other countries in order to advance its geostrategic, economic, and geopolitical interests, does not auger well for world peace.

This has got to stop. NOW!

Should at least give some of the US states looking at a breakaway some ammunition. Whats good for the goose!

Also, if it's ok for Kosovo then why not back the Palestinians in creating their own state as well?

It is against international law for an ethnic group to have its own nation?

International Law?

What is this nonesense? ...

Who made this law?

What police force backs this law?

Where are the courts?

Who voted on this law?

When did this so called "International Law" come into effect?

What are some other International Laws?

Who decides who should follow which law?

Why do you call it "Law"?

What happens if you "break the international law"?

What is the punishment?

Who decides who should be punished?

The UN?

Does not the idea of International Law work against national sovereignty?

Answering those questions would be greatly appreciated.

Ur, because we took Palestine from the Palestinians and gave it to the Zionists to make Israel. Bit unfair that, when you think about it.

Hey, if nothing else, the U.S. has proven over and over again that we like to cherry-pick our foreign policy as it suits us. Israel/Palestine, et al.

And, when it comes down to it, who are we - a start-up, "F/U" England territory - to tell anyone what they can and can't do? I mean we are already hypocrites.

Besides, we have our own issues: Healthcare, Education, Out-Of-Control Taxes, Faltering Economy, 1% Jailed Populace, Meth and other Rampant Drugs, Gov't Corruption...do I need to go on?

So, when it boils down to it, I don't give a rat's about Kosovo. Except to say... more power to them! I only wish the U.S. citizenry had half of their courage.
