currently running an athlon 4000+ overclocked from 2.4 to 2.64ghz, 2.5gb ram, radeon x1950xtx 512mb. wife has a similar setup but with an opteron 148
(similar to the 3700+ (2.2ghz 1mb) and a geforce 8600 gts 256.
i'm actually going to buy 2 new sets for both of us this weekend once my check clears:
e6550 2.33 c2d, gigabyte p35 motherboard, 2gb ram. i'll give her the 1950xtx and i'm getting an ati 3870 512mb.
one thing i was wondering - why is the e6600 so much more? the fsb is only 1066 compared to the 1333 on the 6550 and the end result clocks only 66mhz
faster. same cache size, but it's almost $100 more than the 6550. is it just an old pricing scheme that never got revised or is it actually
significantly better in some way?
this is the first intel chip i have ever purchased for myself. i've been an amd guy since the K6's.

actually, i saw that the 45nm penryn's just came out. the e8400's are hard to find, but the xeon e3110 is the same core with the xeon name - even
the cpuID's are identical
specs are 3.0ghz, 6mb cache, 1333 fsb. just ordered 2. i'm REALLY excited. can't wait. =)
oh, and it was only about $200. cheaper than the e6600 and only $30 more than the 6550.
