WASHINGTON (AP) - Helicopters carrying three senior U.S. senators made emergency landings Thursday in the mountains of Afghanistan because of a snowstorm.

Sens. John Kerry, Joseph Biden and Chuck Hagel were aboard the aircraft. No one was injured, according a statement from Kerry's office. The senators and their delegation returned to Bagram Air Base in a motor convoy, and have left for Turkey.

Afghanistan eh? What are they doing there? I need to check and see if there really was a snow storm there.

Hopefully the Senators were travelling with enough clean underwear.

Personally, I'd hate to lose two of those three guys, even if they are just politicians.

If I'm not mistaken they were there as International Observers for the recent elections.

On topic i find this very intereting and too would like to see a weather report on this.

The lawmakers were on a trip this week that included stops in India, Turkey and Pakistan, where they observed the elections earlier this week.

We do not know what there true business or itinerary involves. Possibly just a short cut

I'm sure they were just checking in on their annual opium crops.

I believe Afghanistan now accounts for 92% of the worlds opium production.
