Hi,

I have heard of San Nicolas Is being part of various weapons testing facilities and can someone point me out where on Google Earth can I find the missile launch pads like the image below which was fired from San Nicolas a while ago?
www.nawcwpns.navy.mil...

Thx.

33°14'23.50"N 119°27'39.00"W on Google Earth

Note there is a Groom Lake connection here. The Beech Janet aircraft have gone to KNSI, though more often they just land at Oxnard. I don't have an anchor post on the page, but go here
www.lazygranch.com...
and look for the line
"Flight from Groom Lake (TKM) to San Nicolas Island (NSI) by N20RA"

There are more Janet tracks here
www.lazygranch.com/passur.htm

The famed N105TB plane has been in the general area (Pt. Mugu).
n105tb.co.uk...
N105TB has been to Groom Lake a few times. It also shows up on my tracking page. The QF4 on that page most likely was modified at KMHV (Mojave) by BAE.

Note that you can visit this island under some conditions. It is a popular diving destination. Be sure to duck if a cruise missile approaches.

Oh yeah, I forgot. The missiles to my knowledge are not launched from San Nic, but land there. [You wouldn't want to launch them towards the coast. ;-)] You'll have to google a bit, but the missiles either come from Pt. Mugu or Vandenberg. Because there are nearby, I tend to get them confused.
