Serbian president Tadic vows to preserve Kosovo

www.alertnet.org

BELGRADE, Feb 15 (Reuters) - Serbia swore in President Boris Tadic on Friday two days before Kosovo proclaims independence, in the country's most traumatic moment since it was bombed by NATO in 1999 to end ethnic cleansing in the province.

We have two more days till Kosovo declares independence. The EU and World Bank are gathering donations today to fund the secessionists. This will lay the foundations for a New Cold War that could dominate the 21st century and even ignite a Third World War. This is a very dangerous game. One that could end without any winners.

I haven't really been following what's going on there. Can you explain why this would be the case?

I hope all goes well. The poor Muslims have been waiting for a long time for a 'kosova' independant state.Kosovans are finally going to get their independence and can create their own identity.

I can hear Russia/Serbia breathing fire behind the scenes....But Kosovans got full backing from US/Europe.

Well you have to back up and look at the overall picture.

The Theater Missile Defense Network, and refusals to accept Russian cooperation in it. That was the beginning.
The attacks on the Russian government over Human Rights and Civil Liberties by the West.
Western sympathy and interference in Georgia, Ukraine and Serbia.
Lastly the EU/NATO support for the secession of Kosovo.

The Russians and their allies feel they are under seige by the West. This is fueling Nationalism and Extremism across the Orthodox Slavic world.

The Russians see a clear lack of cooperation from the West. This has already lead to Anti Western paranoia and movements.

The Russians have had missile exercises off the cost of Spain and France, overflew a US Supercarrier and entered Japanese airpspace recently. These type of events are going to increase.

Plus you have the US testing its Theater Missile Defense system on one of its failing spy satellites.

Mike, Do you think you will stay if the Serbs invade Kosovo or If the Russians threaten to invade? I think you guys are really protecting a bunch of terrorist and I think Bush really wants to pull us out of there but how can he without admitting the U.S. screwed up by getting involved in the first place. I hope NATO pulls out and says good luck we are needed elsewhere!! Anyway stay safe over there.

I'm not over there yet,
. The location Balkans Operation Center isn't in the Balkans. Sorry for the confusion. If anything I'll be deploying to New Orleans this summer. I appreciate the support though.

I dont think we should safeguarding the KLA, anymore than we should be safeguarding Hamas (which I know were not, yet).
