Death Squadrons in Iraq For the first time the Iraqi Secretary of Inner Affairs has commented on reports of the US army about Iraqi death squadrons. Major General Kamal Hussein confirmed the announcement in the Iraqi newspaper "Al Maschrik". Allegedly, 22 officials of the Secretary for Inner Affairs and three emplyoees of the Secretary for Defense are involved. They had abducted and killed civilians "to satisfy their thirst for revenge". According to Hussein, the affiliates of the death squadron acted without authority and instructions from the Minister. Representatives of the Iraqi Sunnites accused the Secretary of Inner Affairs, Bajan Bakr Solagh, of leading an illegal paramilitary unit. Solagh is a member of the shiite party Sciri. According to the accusations, the illegal militia has emerged from this party, planning to assassinate Sunnite clergymen and political enemies. Eyewitnesses reported that the presumptive kidnappers had been wearing police uniforms.
