We all know about Roswell, O'hare, Stephensville, The Battle of Los Angeles, Maury Island, etc. Just take a look at one of the posts on this site about 100 of the most well known alien contacts.

What I want to know is what are the most famous "non-famous" UFO cases? The ones that intrigue people that maybe don't get as much airplay as some of these bigger sightings. I feel like a lot of these probably have taken place in other countries (like Russia and Mexico) and just haven't gotten as much attention over here.

If anyone would like to share a case that really intrigues them that not many people know about, please share here. I would like to find some new cases to study.

Well, this is somewhat famous but not talked about that much anymore. I first heard about it as a child when the show Unsolved Mysteries ran a segment on it then on a History Channel special a few months ago.

There were two women and a child in a car driving outside of Houston when they encountered a UFO. Their car practically melted from the heat and all three of them had severe radiation poisoning. The woman who actually got out of the car to inspect (Vickie) subsequently had her hair fall out in clumps and the boy grew up to have all sorts of genetic problems including reproductive complications.

All three were offered medical treatment from the government at first. They seemed more than willing to help and Vickie even has the original paper work from the government where they offered to pay for everything. Then the government did a total 180 and acted like they didn't even know who they were and that they were, in essence, on their own.

Evidence for the encounter is what is amazing. The medical photos from the radiation and hair loss, the boy's medical records that show he is totally FUBARed now in a physical sense, and the government documents first showing their willingness to help then complete refusal for no reason whatsoever. There are also images where the asphalt melted and the top of the trees were burnt in proximity to where the UFO flew. Not to mention photographs to the lady's melted car that still exist.

Pretty interesting. The UFO might not have been filled with little green men but it is pretty obvious something happened to those people that night.

Yeah, I remember reading about that case. Do you have any links to these pictures? I'd be interested in seeing some of the evidence.

I also want to hear from you international folks. What are the top 2 or 3 UFO incidents in your country?

I'm particularly interested in Russia because I hear they're currently very forthcoming about UFO information. Also, from Corso's book, it seems they had a lot of knowledge of UFOs during the Cold War. Anyone know where that information might be listed? In English?

best,
c

Hi CaptnCrunch,

Relevant links are included in the discussion of this case (the Cash/Landrum incident involving Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum, and Colby Landrum near Huffman, Texas on 29 December 1980) in my thread Top 100 UFO Cases - Revealed!.

This case featured as Case 30 in that thread.

The ufologie.net link given towards the end of the relevant entry includes some a photo of the "burns".

Since my article was rather long, for ease of reference I'll quote the relevant entry below:

30. 68 references : Cash/Landrum incident (1980)

Betty Cash, Vickie Landrum, and Colby Landrum sighting near Huffman, Texas on 29 December 1980. (Commonly referred to as the “Cash/Landrum incident”.)

This incident came fourth in an online poll conducted in March/April 2006 by Paul Kimball of “the UFO case with the ‘best evidence’ ever”.

This incident has featured in the following:

  • a list by James Carrion, the International Director of the Mutual UFO Network, of the “top 10 cases” in an interview in 2006.
  • a list of cases produced by Greg Bishop for the Fortean Times in 2007 as part of a survey of various researchers of the ten cases from 1947 onwards that interested them the most.

This incident is discussed on the ATS.com forums in Thread 189389.

Here are a few from Australia:

The Kelly Cahill case has always interested me. Below is a extract from the case, link below:

' ... I'm standing there, and we are looking at this thing [for about 3O seconds]. All of a sudden there is a black figure on the field. It's about seven foot tall. . . . I knew it was really tall at the time.

For Kelly this was quite startling. She expected to see a human being, but this was not human. Kelly tried to use thought as a means of communication. She was immediately overwhelmed with fear. Its eyes seemed to turn to a red fire.

At the distance of about 150 meters, they possessed an extraordinary luminosity .

It started coming towards us, only slowly, and it had big red eyes. It sounds stupid, but it had great big round red eyes, like huge flies' eyes and they were red like, not like a reflection of red, but like burning red, like . . . fluorescent stop lights, I suppose, that sort of real burning red.

All of a sudden I started screaming out [to my husbands. . . . Now this has really got me baffled because of the fact that a human being doesn't know this, so I don't even know how I came out with this, but I started saying, "They've got no souls." And then I started screaming, "THEY'VE GOT NO SOULS!"

Then all of a sudden there were heaps of them in the field, not just one, a whole heap of them, and they started coming towards us . . . faster than a man could run, and they were gliding off the ground. They got halfway across the field.

They split up. Some of them went towards the other people [two or three, Kelly thought]. and some of them [the rest] came towards us. Kelly found herself screaming to the other people down the road, "They're evil! They're going to kill us!"

The next thing I know, I felt this oomph! in my stomach, right across here like I was winded, but I was thrown right back, and I was on my back on the ground. I sat up, with my head between my knees. Here, I'm trying to stay conscious. I couldn't see. My eyes. . . . It was all black.

.. . . I'm screaming out to [my husband]. . . .

Kelly speculated that her "winding" may have been caused by an electric fence present at the site. That may or may not be true. The fence may not even have been on at the time. Even if it was, the power may not have been strong enough to generate the effect she described. Nonetheless this possibly prosaic incident led her into confusion over whether the forces she was confronting were "good" or "evil."

But the next thing I heard him saying, "Let go of me." His voice was all sort of cracked up with fear, and I'd never heard that from my husband. He's not frightened or afraid of anything. . . .

Then this male voice said, "We [don't] mean you any harm." And then he said, "Why did you hit Kelly then?" That's the last I heard of [my husband]. No one else talked except me. I heard the male voice. Then I heard myself saying, "Oh, God, I'm going to be sick." I've got my head between my knees, and I just felt, like, violently nauseous. Then I must have blacked out for a little while.

I don't remember being sick. Then I remember hearing talk about being a peaceful people, and I started screaming out, I said, "Don't believe them! They're going to steal your souls!" I know it sounds so ridiculous now, but at the time I was hysterically terrified. . . . I had never felt terror like that. Not even in my worst nightmares had I experienced terror like that. . . .

Oh, there's one thing I remember that he (the alien) said: "I wouldn't harm her. She's my daughter." Now when I first saw them -on the way up to [my girl friend's] in the field --- the first thing I did was pray. And I took it as sarcasm straight away. And it sounded like sarcasm. . . .

It sounded like there was even a small laugh after that. I don't know-it just wasn't good to me.

This one's interesting too, although after the initial flap of publicity, it seemed to me (and others) that a concerted debunking campaign got underway. A prominent radio talk-back host, with a huge following, did much to discredit this family, by portraying them as 'inter-bred' and of subnormal intelligence .. all seemingly unfounded, but his 'opinion' did much to hose-down this story, to the point the family were driven into hiding, if i remember correctly. Worked as an example to other average citizens to keep quiet about their experiences, no doubt.

... January 20 1988 was the day that the Knowles family and their two dogs had an unexplainable experience whilst travelling across the Nullarbor Plain in the early hours of the morning.

At about 4.00am, Faye Knowles and her sons Patrick, 24, Sean, 21, and Wayne 18 were between Madura and Mundrabilla with Sean driving and Patrick next to him in the front seat when a bright light was seen ahead of them.

Sean thought the light strange and asked his brother if he thought it was a spaceship. This idea was rejected by his brother, but Sean’s interest was piqued and he sped the car up in order to catch up to the object and get a closer look.

At about 20 metres from the object the family say they were confronted with a white blinding light that moved along in front of their moving vehicle. It was about 1 metre wide and described as a slightly angular egg in an egg-cup shape with a yellow centre.

The object, which at first appeared to be either on the ground or immediately above it then began to move back and forth. Sean swerved the car to the opposite side of the road to avoid a collision with the object, but then nearly collided with a station wagon towing a caravan coming in the other direction. (The occupants of this second car have never come forward)

The object then circled around to the right side of their car and appeared to give chase to the second vehicle towing the caravan. The Knowles made at 2 u-turns at this point, the first to give chase to the object, and the second to abandon this idea as they had grown frightened. They had at this point gained the idea that the object was after them.

At some point the family felt that the UFO had returned and had landed on their vehicle. They heard a clunking sound and felt that the car was being pushed down by a weight that rested on top of it.

Here's another:

' 25 years ago, Frederick Valentich disappeared over Bass Strait in very strange circumstances. It is a mystery that still has not been explained.

...Valentich reported in this transmission that "a large aircraft" appeared below him, then apparently passed over his aircraft. He felt it was an "unknown aircraft" particularly because of its apparent speed. It approached him from the east and seemed to be "playing some sort of game", "flying over me two three times at speeds I could not identify".

Frederick Valentich emphasised, "It's not an aircraft ... it's flying past, it's a long shape." Then he described, "it seems like its stationary.
What I'm doing right now is orbiting and the thing is just orbiting on top of me also it's got a green light and sort of metallic (like) it's all shiny (on) the outside."

One minute later Valentich said the object was approaching his aircraft from the Southwest. Then the Cessna's engine started rough idling. Frederick Valentich's last transmission was, "...that strange aircraft is hovering on top of me again. It is hovering and it's not an aircraft." 17 seconds of open microphone followed with metallic like sounds hear, perhaps like the rapid keying of the plane's microphone, and then silence.

An intensive air, sea and land search followed over the next 4 days. No trace of pilot or plane was ever found.

Out of them all there are two that seem to get less attention (from my perspective), and they are the 1967 The Shag Harbor Incident, and the 1984 Fast Walker

Shag Harbour is kind of like a fine wine and is getting more interest with age, but the Fast Walker seems to be disappearing from view at a rapid rate.

There was this incident that was authenticated by a department of the Philippine gov't. Strange that it never was brought up here, as compelling as it was; physical evidence & all.

philippines releases secret ufo files

"Now it can be told."

"A team from the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has admitted actively participating in the investigation of what is known as Close Encounters of the Third Kind."

"UFOs or unidentified flying objects, in particular, Elmer Escosia, team leader, team leader, said they opined files to reveal what they discovered so far instead of keeping the information to themselves."

"'Our files and records are open to the public and anyone can read or research,' Escosia told the Manila Times.

"The team, he said, is composed of eight members under PAGASA's Astronomy Division, which was assigned to investigate UFO sightings in the country," i.e. the Philippine Islands.

"According to Escosia, they were able to explain most of the UFO sightings from all over the country, which were reported to PAGASA."

"But, he admitted, they were stumped and found no logical explanation for three such sightings."

"The first was in 1984, or 16 years ago, when children reported that they saw 'bulbous-non-human beings' alight from a large, disk-shaped 'spacecraft' which landed in Ormoc City in western Leyte."

(Editor's Note: Ormoc is a port city on the west coast of Leyte Island, located about 640 kilometers or 400 miles southeast of Manila, the national capital. Ormoc was the site of a ferocious battle between the Imperial Japanese Army and the U.S. Army's 77th Division in September 1944 during World War II.)

'It was impossible not to believe the children's testimonies since they gave the same descriptions,' Escosia said."

"He added they sent the description of the 'aliens' to other investigators in the USA who appeared to be similarly stumped."

"The two other unexplainable sightings were in Las Pitas and Muntiniupa City in 1997 and on May 10 of this year (2000)."

"In 1997, Escosia reported, at least 400 people reported that they saw 13 odd-shaped flying objects that were clearly visible in the following subdivisions: Uranium Street, Pilar village, Las Pitas" (and) "Dona Josefa, also in Las Pitas, and Heroes Hill in Muntiniupa."

"The eyewitnesses described the UFOs as transparent and hollow at the middle, closely resembling a school of jellyfish minus the tentacles." (See the Manila Times for September 14, 2000, "Three sightings of UFOs aliens stump PAGASA astronomical experts," by Jeannette Andrade. Many thanks to Rev. Billy Dee for forwarding the newspaper article.)
I might be mistaken but I could have sworn there was a same day video shot at another location nearby of the actual object. It may have been experiencing technical difficulties because it either landed again or was flying ridiculously close to the ground.
