Need to boost this forum a wee bit.I know we have some excellent writers here, so how about it ? Contest Ideas????

I'll definitely enter a contest.

not too sure I could fit into a collaboration yet though due to various things.

I've done a couple of shorts here already, gota few ore lined up.

Waiting for WW to see if I can get writer status..

I totally understand RL interfering, damned inconvenient that life stuff sometimes.

Ive seen a couple of movies lately that got me to thinking, what would you do if you suddenly found yourself displaced from now into the distant Past or the far Future. Would make for a good tale me thinks.

Oh, gosh by all means...
So Intrepid is judge then.

And it's 'person' and 'habitable'

meanwhile, while things are getting organized..i'm just writing a shortie..

I like the single parameter story lines as posted above.

I spend some time on a writers board and their short story stuff has so many parameters it looks more like a writing class assignment than something resembling a short story.


So here's my entry for the First Person to Land on an Uninhabited Planet.

Spaceman Biff and The Carmel Colored Planet


Spaceman Biff = SB.

Wierd Hands Alien Super Strength Underling Person = Whassup

SB, "Thats it. We're down."

Whassup, "Thats it boss. The ladder is out, gravity is normal and the atmosphere is breathable."


SB steps out.

"I dunno Whassup. Don't look good to me. Smells like rat farts."


"So boss, how would you know what a rat fart smells like?"


"Keep it up Whassup and I'll leave you here."


"Maybe so boss, but you'll note you're the one outside on the ladder and you don't know how to fly let alone navigate."


"Gotcha Whassup. Cancel that threat."


"Yessir boss. Not a problem."


"And Whassup, next time you go out first."


"Yessir boss. Latch the hatch and we'll head for the next stop. We sure are getting this government survey done quick. They gave us a grant for a year and we have eleven planets surveyed with one more to go. What will we do during the next 11 months?"


"Thats the way it goes in the grant biz Whassup. When you write up the surveys be sure and tell them we need another five years worth of grants to research all the parameters in depth. And Whassup . . . don't screw up this time and mail it the week after we get back to the Tahiti Spaceport."

"Sorry boss, good thing nobody reads these big reports and finds out what a cushy life we're having...."

Sounds like a good contest concept. Although the "only person in a certain place" is always fun, kind of like the the concept from I am Legend, or that one Twilight Zone where everything gets nuked and there is only one person left but he breaks his glasses.

Although, thinking on it, the "first person on an inhabitable planet" would definitely fit the above suggestion.



Ahhhh!! This is getting me inspired. I haven't been that inspired in a while. So hurry it up already!
