Man lived with corpse for years

The body of a man believed to have been dead for more than five years has been found in a Bristol flat where a tenant continued to live.

How on Earth does a corpse still smell bad enough after 5 years for neighbours to complain?

How does a person, mentally ill or not, carry on with their daily routine and not notice the extreme lack of conversation, or change of clothes, or even movement from their flatmate?

Seems all very odd to me. There may yet be a lot more to this than meets the eye. The world is a baffling place at times.

One would think the smell would have been occuring for the last 5 years? Why did they just smell it now? The story doesn't really have much details to go on.

Which is strange enough in itself.

The worst smell from a corpse is the escaping gases that collect. This surely must have touched on the tenants nose a bit, and others. Humans are not exactly small.

We make quite a stink.

But 5 years later and it still smelt?? I don't think so, unless he watering the body and keeping the central heating on, but that might contribute to the decay, not that there would be much left after 5 years. Mostly a dried husk and bones.
