Scientists create three-parent embryos

The idea is to prevent women with faults in their mitochondrial DNA passing diseases on to their children. Around one in 5,000 children suffer from mitochondrial diseases, which can include fatal liver, heart and brain disorders, deafness, muscular problems and forms of epilepsy.

If all goes well, researchers believe they may be able to start offering the technique as a treatment in three to five years.

Two women and a man. I can think of lots of less than scientific comments about this. I guess in the future, kids might have mom, mom, and dad.

It seems we're getting better and better at manipulating the building blocks of life.

I read about this in the paper today. Very interesting.
We will have to wait and see if they can go ahead and create a fully grown foetus.

oh wait! One thing does! The fact that there's no known human clones waking around... because I bet my freaking salary (
) that they do already exist and maybe don't even know themselves about it...
