Vista SP1 "FInal" version is out

It is interesting the changes the sp1 makes in Vista.

It seems the kernal is being changed to be the same as server 2008.

The version and build information of Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008 (RTM) are exactly the same as each other. And yes, Vista's kernel has been replaced. Windows Vista pre-SP1 is Windows version 6.0 build 6000 (6.0.6000) whereas Windows Vista SP1 RTM is version 6.0 build 6001 (6.0.6001) – the same as Server 2008"

Oh, by the way, the feb 4th release of Vista SP1 is not really the case for us.

The only ones getting the SP1 final version (now) are corporate accounts.

Question:

Will the SP1 be included in the Vista Updates my computer does each day, or will it be a separate purchase?

You DO!!!!!! need this update/sp1.

It is a large download and a very long load, this is because it replaces the Vista kernal with that from server 08, and yes, you really want that.

I found that it speeds up the boot times/shutdown times and even makes it run better in general.

I was so tired of waiting for the "Shut down" I downloaded a file called, "Speed Shut", it works really well and is at least twice as fast...

Still like my Vista though...

i work on a web development team taking care of servers that our apps run on. i agree that you will want to patch to SP1. we have a site that IE7 (only on vista, IE7 on XP was fine) refused to connect to. we disabled every security setting we could find and it was acting like we didn't even have a connection to the network. i applied the SP1 release candidate and it connected fine. vista in general, while suitable for an average joe user, is a pain in the arse to manage in a corporate environment. i tried it on my pc at home and it refused to detect my usb keyboard. usb mouse and usb headset were fine. but it had no clue what to do with my keyboard - even after getting the drivers/utility from the manufacturer. we pretty much see it as the second coming of ME around here.

When this patch is released for Vista Home Premium I think I might download it and give vista another shot. I previously had vista but got sick of the problems and went back to XP.

Hopefully it won't take too long before this path is released aka the non-corporate products.

There are some driver issues being discussed with the SP1, but it is still more than worth your while.

Remember, it is basicly replacing the vista kernal with the server 08 kernal.

As an interesting note, it seems that the next operating system from M$, currently called windows 7, might be an addon to vista, not a stand alone.
That is to say, you must have vista load and load 7 over it.
That is how it is in early current versions, this however might change.

The only issues I have had with my new Ultimate is with my printer of course. Anticipated that.. And the USB Flash Drives that run the U3 system, but you can simply load the drivers onto the disk to fix that...

I have it running on 3 machines now and all of my peripherals work just fine.. USB keyboards, mice and remote HDD's...

Server operating systems are not as open in the hardware it can use.

Vista service pack 1 has been leaked, you can find it on a few torrent sites.

If you want to try out sp1-there is a post with a link, else, wait for the M$ (M$=microsoft) official download.

remember folks, the sp1 will be between 500megs and a few gig's-really.
It WILL take between 30 and 90 min to install-yes really.

Remember, it has to remove the vista core and replace it with the server 2008 core (kernal).
