Sounds like your arn't having a very nice computer experience at all, lol - all those problems.
Right, where to start...
Scandisk deleted JS and AVI files from your computer? Thats odd... Perhaps they were corrupt.
The BSOD (blue screen of death) tells me that yes, a memory leak may of caused them.
Just because your copies were illegal doesn't mean they may of had worms, trojans or viruses in them (I'm not saying it's good to use illegal
software, lol), so you could of just ran an up-to-date virus checker over the installed files, and the original source disk/files (if you have
it/them).
If the power surge effected anything, you would know - the computer wouldn't boot up at all. Maybe it may of harmed the hard disk drive, but even if
it did, I don't think Windows would of loaded at all.
I don't know what you mean about the defrag red line, on the normal view of the defrag, you will get red lines... These say what files are what
(there is a key at the top) - but I am assuming your refering to a different red line, so I don't know that one, sorry.
Well Windows 2000 should not be that buggy (well it is, all windows are, lol. But I mean not *that* buggy). If you have installed all the SPs and all
major updates, you should be OK.
The mouse thing is weird - By any chance is it an infrared mouse (optical) or a cordless mouse? As I have heard of a lot of problems with those sort
of mice. If it is a cordless mouse, check the batteries - change them if needed. Maybe try 're-installing' the mouse. (remove it from device
manager, restart computer - then install it again).
The cookies thing is weird, you can delete them through IE6 anyway, or manually. If that person did acidently download a worm onto your computer, run
a virus check with an up-to-date checker. To avoid things like this in future, make sure everybody who does something (software wise) to your
computer, tell you what they are doing, and make them to a virus check afterwards - this is what I do with my clients, and it has saved me a lot of
troubleshooting, lol.
So after all that... Conclusions... Some people may disagree, but I think you should consider doing a re-install of Windows 2000 (and all the
SPs/updates, etc) - A clean install mind. You seem to have a lot of problems, and it may take an awful while to get them all sorted - if ever. That
may not even work, which is worrying.
Best thing to do is this... Do you have a local 'guru' who could actually come round and look at the computer? And I mean a friend, so you don't
have to pay, lol. See if they can help you out, as it is much easier solving problems when you are there in person, and not over the Internet, lol.
You could also try taking it to a local computer store, see if they could check it out - they may charge mind, and it probably won't be cheap.
If I think of anything, I'll post again.
