Hey Caveman, Ive been checking out a few of your threads and links to your artwork. Pretty good work, you are an artist, and seem to be knowledgeable
(or at least have enough experience to lend me some educated opinions
). Do you mind if I pick your brains a bit?
Very brief background: I have been doing a bit of mechanical work on motorcycles and ATVs, mostly carburetor work. I have been using canned air to
blow out the jets etc. I recently won an auction on eBay for a VERY cheap compressor. 3 gallon, 100psi pancake compressor, $35 shipped to my door.
This is to replace the canned air. I want the compressor to serve many purposes so I found a few cheap airbrushes on eBay as well. I got a 0.3mm
siphon feed dual action; and a 0.2mm gravity feed dual action for about $15. I thought this would be a good way to get started airbrushing very cheap.
The problem I ran into is paints, airbrush paint is damn expensive!
I am wondering if I can thin down something like
Crayola Tempera Paint or
possibly use watercolor paints, you know the type that come in little compressed dry pancakes? I would really rather not spend $6 for a 1-2oz bottle
of Createx, or $40 on a 6 pack. I want to try my hand at airbrushing on the cheap.
Could you recommend something I could spray through the gun (after being properly thinned) that is VERY cheap? I dont want to break the bank on
Createx, House of Kolor, AutoAir, etc... only to find out that I am crap at airbrushing, or hate using the airbrush.
I am looking to spend a
couple of bucks on an array of colors, or at the very least primaries, white and black (I can mix my own colors). I will probably clearcoat with a can
of spraypaint to start with. I very much appreciate your input if you reply to this. Thank you!
