US Anti-missile ship to dock in Israel

An American missile ship set to dock at Haifa Port on Monday is equipped with an anti-missile defense system that could be deployed in the region in the event of an Iranian missile attack against Israel.

The USS San Jacinto is an AEGIS cruiser in the Ticonderoga Class and was commissioned in 1988. It carries the most advanced underwater surveillance system available today and is equipped with the AEGIS missile defense system, which was developed by Lockheed Martin to protect against aircraft and missiles. The ship will remain in Haifa for three days.

Why only three days? Do they know something that we dont? It should stay and defend Israel.

Why should it stay?

Why should we spend our money to keep defending them?

Because it's there for a port call, and not deployed to sit at some dock in Israel. All Navy AEGIS cruisers are "anti-missile" ships, as well as anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-sub ships.

I agree with you that it's probably just a normal port call. I also agree that the AEGIS cruisers are 'anti-just about everything'.

If it were to be there for a prolonged period, I think one might could see that it's there to help defend against something, but since it's a 72hr stopover, that doesn't sound particularly noteworthy. It is a Psyact though, just like a carrier battle group off one's coast.

Perhaps it's using its inbuilt facilities in tracking the final re-entry vector of the Defunct Spy Satellite thats due tue to fall from orbit so the technology doesn't fall into the wrong hands? Think Ice-Station Zebra!

It sounds like a normal port call.

The US military should not be in the business of defending Israel, we already give Israel a big enough chunk of cash every year that they ought to be able to defend themselves without our help

It's bad enough that we give them so much money, no US serviceman should be asked to put their life on the line for someone else's attempt at colonization...
