Africa this past week has been in the news far more than I remember at anytime. Sadly it has been terrible news. The stories have struck me as previews for a Malthusian apocalypse.

plus an attack on Israeli embassy in Mauritania, the continuing mess in Somalia, etc.

This is just the past week.

This along with the stories out of Haiti and the Carribean about high food prices due to high Oil and Gas Prices and lack of chicken due to Bird Flue are possibly just the initial indicators of how bad things are going to get in the Third World if the gobal economy sinks and energy prices soar.

I want to know can anything be done. Its just mind boggling to comprehend the scale of the mess.

*Sigh*

I'm glad you posted this. You're absolutely right. I posted in another thread how there is so much going on that it is hard to follow. In Africa, In the Middle East and rest of Asia, and in other aspects through the West.

The trailer for Halo 3 really struck me with its blatant symbolism concerning apocalyptic theory in Africa.

Definitely something going on at Bungie. It also asks the question: is this the theory on the location for the battle of Armageddon?

It is as you say very difficult to comprehend a fix for this situation. And as I have said before, I feel the world is heading to the big reset button. It's happened before. Humans have become a virus and so will naturally be eradicated by both the Earth and by our own hand.

Things go from bad to worse. News from today.

Heavy fighting resumes in Chad's capital
news.yahoo.com...

The crazy thing about this is how Chad is tied to the mess in Sudan. Hundreds of thousands of refugees that are from Sudan have come to Chad. Chad's government has accused Sudan of supporting the rebels, threatening to ignite a regional war that will disrupt African Oil.

Then this happens.

UN backs French help against Chad rebels
news.yahoo.com...

The UN Security Council has given the Green light to France and other nations to repel the rebels in Chad who may be being supported by Sudan. Almost 2,000 French troops already based in Africa may rapidly be deployed to counter rebel forces.

Part of this seems to be that Sudan does not want EU forces to deploy to Chad or Sudan, but whats happening will only speed up the deployment of European forces not stop them.

One thing I wonder is how are the Chinese taking this? They have just had the first hundred plus peacekeeper troops arrive in Sudan and are being welcomed by Sudan. Could they and future Chinese forces get caught in the middle of a regional war involving the EU, Chad, and Sudan?

More news from the frontline of an Apocalypse:

Kenyan school for homeless children hit
news.yahoo.com...

The attackers crept out of a coffee plantation, smeared with clay and armed with spears, machetes, bows and arrows. Then they burned and looted the home that served as the only refuge for 130 children with troubled pasts

This is just brutal. Its as if most of the continent has descended into a Mad Max film. At least a 1,000 people have been killed in recent clashes in Kenya.

Plus we have the UN threatening Eritrea.

UN demands Eritrea ease fuel supplies
news.yahoo.com...

UN forces, numbered at almost 2,000, are suffering from fuel shortages in the Ethipiopian-Eritrean borde region. These peacekeepers may gave to pull out. The bad thing is that Ethiopia and Eritrea could go to war without the peacekeepers there. That would drag the Horn of Africa into a regional war. If that happens I wonder how that will affect conflict nearby in Sudan and Chad?

Elsewhere today:

Egypt and Palestinians trade fire at border
news.yahoo.com...

Platinum hits record on supply concerns
news.yahoo.com...

South Africa is suffering from a National electricity crisis. Ongoing blackouts have crippled the mining industry there and sent Palladium and Platinum prices soaring.

African women slam abuse of females with HIV/AIDS
news.yahoo.com...

Although sub-Saharan Africa is home to just over 10 percent of the world's population, it is the most ravaged by HIV, carrying more than 60 percent of all people living with the virus that causes AIDS.

Drugs flowing to Europe via West Africa

(The Nigerians singular is not the N-word, it is the name of a nation in Africa, can ATS fix this automatic censorship of a nations name. I can't even post links from the news because of it. )

This is all just from Today.

Plus there are recovery efforts going in the region hit by the two powerful earthquakes that hit Rwanda and the Congo yesterday.

I urge people to contact congressmen and senators, push for a charitable program that invests in African infrastructure, education, and health.

I know some people will say but what anout us? Well we waste enough resources and money to help ourselves and others. Its kind of hypocritical to even ask what about us, when we wont even help ourselves. We go through our lives building more and more debt. For what? A new car, computer, cellphone, and other assorted useless things every other year.

African platinum, palladium, diamonds, and cash crops find their way into our lives everyday. Every Catalytic converter, which is used to reduce pollution from engines, uses platinum and palladium most likely from Africa. People need to think about that when they are buying a new car. They give us so much, yet what do we give them in return? Disfunctional celebrity tourists and underfunded aid organizations.

Africa is the holy land for all humanity. We do not help Africa, however, because the people there are a different color than hte people "in charge". The land was raped, and new rapists put in charge when hte old ones got bored, and now this is what we have. The goal, plainly, is to have the Africans kill each other off so their "betters" can swoop in and turn it into one giant strip mine powered by slave labor.

We were disturbed to hear about the level of rape in the camps. The women told us that at night men would scream to make people start running away in panic. Then they would chase the women and girls, catch them and rape them. So, women were being told to watch over their girls. Women were also being advised not to go to the toilets at night.
I was also told of an elderly lady who was gang raped and then ripped open. The woman died.
Before people massacre others, they dehumanise and demonise the enemy. Walking around the Ponda Mali area we came across many bodies in the streets. We heard two young people refer to one body as "IT". They did not see this as a person - he had become an object. Down the road, a woman was selling her tomatoes unbothered by a body lying nearby. I wondered at this lack of fear or respect.

Oh give me a break! Africa has received more international aid than anyone else. The problem is that the people in power in Africa are almost all totally corrupt and care nothing about their own countrymen. They use war and famine as a reason to get more aid so they can steal it from their people and enhance their own wealth and power. No amount of foreign aid is going to help Africa until they figure out how to develop some kind of system of law and order that works for them. It is not a racial thing - it is a corrpution thing.

We perpetuate the problem by continuing to support those warlords and dictators, by encouraging land owners to grow cash crops, and siphon off raw resources where the people do not see any of the profits. Only powerful corporations and the corrupt warlords see the profits, leaving the people broke and hungry.

If we would stop encouraging their corruption it would be a good first step. Encouraging farmers to grow food instead of cash crops and invest in infrastructure would be the next best steps.

Mbeki says S.Africa can overcome power crisis
news.yahoo.com...

CAPE TOWN (Reuters) - South Africa will overcome an electricity "emergency" that has damaged the economy and cast doubts over its hosting of the 2010 soccer World Cup, President Thabo Mbeki said on Friday.
In an annual state of the nation speech to parliament, Mbeki sought to calm fears among local and foreign investors over the power crisis which last month forced gold and platinum mines to shut down for five days.
South Africa is a leading world producer of both metals and the lack of capacity pushed global prices to record highs. The rand currency has fallen 12 percent this year.

The mess there has pushed platinum prices almost to $2000 an ounce. We think what do we care. Well when new cars come out their prices will be increased to compensate for the use of the platinum and paladium in their engines. That will be one of the most direct effects.

A good portion of Africa is on the verge of a large regional war, that could stretch from Chad, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Somalia. Tens of Thousands of UN and EU troops are heading to the region.

What people dont realize is how much raw resources come out of Africa that go into our production and manufacturing, plus the products we import that our manufactured in China. Many of the raw materials come from Africa. Prices are going to climb as these resources are cut off by conflict and crisis.

It is in our best interest to support these people to get infrastructure up and grow food. Africa has plenty of farmland and needs roads, bridges, and railroads. If we persuade and support them in growing food and not cash crops, plus invest in roads, they will be able to support themselves.

As long as we support corruption and are driven by greed, Africa will continue to suffer and be dependent on humanitarian aid. There is no reason for this. They have the farmland. There is no good reason for Africans to be hungry and starving. They have the resources. There is no good reason for them to not have money for infrastructure and for the people to be broke and unemployed. There is simply not a justifiable humane reason for this insanity.

OK, so they are corrupt.

Corruption is not something that can be done by just one person, for someone to be corrupt there must be a corrupting agent that made that person corrupt.

Corruption only exists because there is a market for it, and that market is managed by people that are not in Africa.

And the so much talked about aid is usually given as a trade to have some kind of help. It goes something like this:

1. Country A offers country B the possibility of having some millions in aid, if they, in return, allow companies from country A to establish themselves in country B without some kind of bureaucratic hindrance that foreign companies have to face (this hindrance was established by country B's government to try to stop foreign companies from occupying their country).

2. Country B needs the money but does not want foreign companies on their land, but a corrupt person, paid under the table by the companies that want to establish themselves in country B, manages things in a way so Country B accepts the conditions.

3. Country A companies establish themselves in country B. They import all the upper level personnel from their own country and use the locals only to do work that does not need special skills.

4. Exports from the companies are organised by country A companies, so the money flow is between country A companies, country B only receives money in the form of wages for those who work on country A companies.

5. After the conditions change (natural resources used, for example), the companies leave country B.

6. Country B is left without the natural resources (or whatever) the companies wanted. They still have to pay the interests on the aid (it was a gift, it was a loan), but now they do not have anything left. The presence of the foreign companies did not did any good for the people, they did not create schools because the local people did not had jobs for which there was a need for education, the hospitals and other facilities were part of the companies, so they went with the companies when they left the country.

7. The corrupt person who helped country A companies leaves the country and goes to country A, where he can live for the rest of his life without any worries.

This is why some organisations are against foreign aid as it is used today, instead of teaching the people how to fish they just throw them a fish and a promise of many fishes that will not be fulfilled.

I had noticed that Africa is in a abnormal state of war, and my first thought was that someone is trying to split the North from the South.

If that is true I don't know, and I don't even know what could be gained by that, but it was my impression.

We have been expecting this and it will only get worse. The great powers will be drawn in. Nukes will be used and then the one world dictatorship with arise and all will receive the mark of the beast. Other than that I wouldn't worry.

"As He sat on The Mount Of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign of Your coming and of the close of the age?" And Jesus answered them, "Take heed that no one leads you astray. For many will come in My Name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and they will lead many astray. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places: all this is but the beginning of the birth-pangs." (Matthew 24:3-8 RSV)

There is another nice synopsis of the end in Rev. 6. The antichrist will be worshipped as a great leader, but will bring destruction. Look for your most popular and beloved world leader (aka not George Bush) as a possible AC.

Note the order of events, war then famine then pestilence and then the worst of all, the very wrath of God. Yup some changes are a comin.

When He broke the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, “Come.” 4 And another, a red horse, went out; and to him who sat on it, it was granted to take peace from the earth, and that men would slay one another; and a great sword was given to him.

The Third Seal—Famine

5 When He broke the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, “Come.” I looked, and behold, a black horse; and he who sat on it had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard something like a voice in the center of the four living creatures saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius; and do not damage the oil and the wine.”

The Fourth Seal—Death

7 When the Lamb broke the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, “Come.” 8 I looked, and behold, an ashen horse; and he who sat on it had the name Death; and Hades was following with him. Authority was given to them over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by the wild beasts of the earth.

The Fifth Seal—Martyrs

9 When the Lamb broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; 10 and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, will You refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, would be completed also.

The Sixth Seal—Terror

12 I looked when He broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the whole moon became like blood; 13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth, as a fig tree casts its unripe figs when shaken by a great wind. 14 The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15 Then the kings of the earth and the great men and the commanders and the rich and the strong and every slave and free man hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains; 16 and they said to the mountains and to the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb; 17 for the great day of their wrath has come, and who is able to stand?”
