Today Iraq, Tomorrow The World

"If we want Iraq to avoid becoming a Somalia on steroids, we’d better get used to U.S. troops being deployed there for years, possibly decades, to come. If that raises hackles about American imperialism, so be it. We’re going to be called an empire whatever we do. We might as well be a successful empire." ~ Max Boot (2003)

The primary plank of a libertarian foreign policy program for America must be to call upon the United States to abandon its policy of global interventionism: to withdraw immediately and completely, militarily and politically, from Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, from everywhere. The cry among American libertarians should be for the United States to withdraw now, in every way that involves the U.S. government. The United States should dismantle its bases, withdraw its troops, stop its incessant political meddling, and abolish the CIA. It should also end all foreign aid – which is simply a device to coerce the American taxpayer into subsidizing American exports and favored foreign States, all in the name of "helping the starving peoples of the world." In short, the United States government should withdraw totally to within its own boundaries and maintain a policy of strict political "isolation" or neutrality everywhere.

-Murray Rothbard

Empire comes with responsibilities.

America will have to get even more used to being hated than now.

The US celebrates football and baseball; most of the rest of the world celebrates "football" ie soccer. And in soccer, bitching and whining is a way of life, and one's heroes are cheats, closet homosexuals, drug abusers and the scum of five continents. This difference in sport is reflected in political and military arenas as well.

The US needs to firmly commit to imperialism or totally back off and follow a libertarian path.

The World Series of baseball is of course nothing of the sort- there's no sense in which the World participates in this pointless and corrupt sport. However, it satisfies the people who pay for it. That is the model the US will have to embrace as an alternative to suicidal wars.

As a life long soccer fan I take offense at your characterization of soccer, the beautiful game. I will grant you a little slack however as it is the FIFA "crackdown" that has resulted in a game where the theatrical are awarded and travesties such as the Italy win of the last World Cup can take place. Soccer bonds peoples hearts worldwide and can be a basis for building international relationships that matter.

VIVA soccer! VIVA Pele!

I hate football with a vengeance.

What used to be about playing the game, scoring goals and team work is now nothing more than 'buy the latest summer kit and buy the winter kit too..'

Most footballers are as described above and how the heck they are even seen to be able to earn the amounts they do is obscene.

The 1970's saw violence on the streets after most matches, in particular, Chelsea and their skinhead supporters.

Not content with that, the F.A. went European. Most English teams are now made up of people whose names the majority can't pronounce and have no connection with the teams local. Teams used to be about you living in the home town. Not anymore. It's all about money.

It's become more of a travesty than it previously was.

As for American football..how can you call it football when most of the time you carry the ball.

You took British rugby and turned it into a half hearted version of itself. You've even got to wear armour...lol.. and then you called it football.

America has done nothing but force it's influence on everyone. Even the spellchecker on this site is set for American English.

Spelling colour without the u is just not right... How America has come to dictate the world is beyond me and I've rejected it for a long time.

The presence of the troops in Iraq will most definitely be extended and expanded if any further wars break out in and around the neighbouring regions.

And anyone who disagrees is an islamofascist, traitor, pinhead, doesn't support the troops, is unAmerican (not difficult for people who aren't American citizens but anyway)...
