President Bush And A Man On Mars

Unbelievable, Bush wants to create a base on the moon, and send a man to Mars. Don�t we have more important things to do with our money? What could we possibly gain?

It's a legacy thing for Bush, he wants to be known for something good instead of sept 11 & Iraq.

He'll be remembered as the first president who put a man on another planet... now how appealing a legacy would that be?

They are going to Mars for concrete reasons but we will not be made aware of them. Notice how they ignore the moon now.

The report states "America will return to the Moon as early as 2015 and no later than 2020 and use it as a stepping stone for more ambitious missions."

I gues like a galactic pitstop for fuel, oxygen and other resources mined and refined on the way to other planets. Sounds thrifty, I bet some how we would save money.

Why not strengthen our space program? I don't understand why people cannot back exploration? I agree with THENEO's comments, there are "concrete" reasons for Mars. The ISS is out of date and is not going to further our exploration orbiting the earth. It's time to actually "EXPLORE" space and its opportunities.

I partially agree with the fact that space exploration is important. It has many benifets including technology trickle down. But the question is can we afford it? Shouldn't we spend our tax dollars on the war on terror, health care or creating new jobs?

Nixon had plans to go to Mars in a spacecraft just a bit larger than Apollo. Everything was mapped out, then cancelled. Now they want to raid the Treasury with ever expanding Moondoggles, all inefficient, all committed funding, draining NASA and handing it over to cronyism. We already have simple plans that are feasible, but "complexify," seems the expensive order of the day. It is not even taken into account that long range plans require continuous experimentation and retooling for cost effectiveness. For example there were supposed to be more shuttles, but pennywise and pound foolish cutting of the program made the five they built more expensive than many more taken together.

Reform the monetary system, and you can go to Mars yesterday, but even more easily with say a TR3-B. Just make it public, and figure out another way to raid the commonswealth.

Hey, I'm all for it if Bush the first one they send to mars.....

It seems like Bush is completely out of touch with the desires and needs of the American people.

They are gearing up for the second comming . . .

Why not try to fix up earth a bit before going to another planet to look at rocks?

but how would we get all that there in the first place? we'd have to send it to the moon until the moon base can start producing it's own products. otherwise it'll just be more and more expensive than going direct to mars.

Yup, what a fool. Trying to do something that is impressive for all of mankind. We are at this site because we are sick of the everyday news and having to settle for a boring life. What is wrong with humanity striving for the exploration of space?

I'll pay more taxes for it if wanted. Heck, I don't even have much money but I like the fact that humanity can try and accomplish something that would be one of the greatest exploration feats EVER. Think about it, putting a man on Mars would be bigger than any of us. Same as having a man on the moon.

No one is willing to take one for the team any more. It's just me me me. Complain about some of the evil things he does, not something like this. He could do a better job of trying to help out the people and still accomplish such feats as space exploration. The only thing that would suck of it all would be if it was all a lie, a Hollywood production.

I tend to think we can achieve great accomplishments if we put our mind to it. Also, how many people on this site believe in ET's and such. This could be one of THE MOST important things when trying to preserve our species. Maybe there could be some disaster being planned for. Even if not I support it.

I believe they're hoping to manufacture the fuel on the Moon from Helium-3 in the soil.

Bush said the soil of the moon "contains raw materials that might be harvested and processed into rocket fuel or breathable air."

PLus, the money being used for the ecploration would just go to some lesser waste anyway. You think that if they save money by not exploring space that it will be used on something that we all really need? Heck no, it would go to something less impressive and less important. Everything that Bush does does not have to be evil. Every Pres is guilty of some evil stuff but man. If you all think that Democrats are so much better and really are for the people than I have some swamp land to sell you. Even Kerry seems to be a back-up plan for if Bush doesn't win. Skull and bones will have a Pres one way or another. At least we know what Bush is really up to. Kerry will hide behind his party and do the same things.

Notice how Bush says we need more of a "Human" presence . . .

I tell you, it will be militarized and its focus is on a comming, err invasion.
