John Edwards is not expected to endorse any candidate today when he officially announces his withdrawal as a candidate.
He has repeatedly insisted that his plans were always to stay in the campaign until at least 'Super Tuesday'. So it could be said that todays
announcement comes as a bit of a surprise. Many pundits have stated that they believed his intention was to stay in thru Feb 6 so that he could
collect just enough delegates to become in effect a 'kingmaker' at the convention.
Was a deal made last night? What caused this sudden change? While least nights vote in Florida was symbolic only, he did get enough votes (approx
15%) to leave him in a position as 'kingmaker' if he had stayed in.
