This is a report of a sighting of a teardrop shaped greenish white object by three Los Alamos scientists on 09JAN50. It was classified as a meteor.

Archivist's Notes: This file is in good condition with all pages legible. The scientists themselves thought that this phenomena was a meteor. The object was seen for aprroximately 2 seconds before it was blocked by the treeline. One interesting thing from this report is the scientists use of terms for describing the size and luminosity of the object.

It would seem that the scientists saw another of those green fireballs that were so common at the time. The short duration of the sighting rules out any possibility of much information being obtained.

It is interesting to note that it was even reported. There must have been an order from someone with pretty good rank to report everything in the sky that wasn't an aircraft, no matter if it was likely a meteor or not. That tells us just how seriously the UFO investigation was. They didn't want to miss any chance of seeing one. (Maybe hoping for a crash to investigate?)

Wow incredible – they managed to get 6 pages of information for a 3 second meteor – Outstanding!!!
One would wonder why this has been kept “Top Secret” …

I would like to link this document to some other FOIA meteor sightings:

...and yes some of them might not have been Meteors...
but with looking at the description of this document, I would believe it was one
