intentiional? who knows, gonna find out something soon if there was anything of importance on their

youd think stuff like that would have gps locator installed on them for reasons such as these

I hope the thief did it for the content and is uploading it to the world right now

the goverment loses data like its worth nothing,
i recall how they almost lost Evacuation and terrorist action plans a while ago,

The whole thing is a JOKE

files are probabley encrypted..Most in US are now requiring this

probably some officers kid playing games on it right now.

I totally agree bodrul, I'm a brit abroad myself here in the US, and I'm keeping up with the governments little mistakes when it comes to personal info. I'm just amazed that this keeps happening. You would think that after the first time, they would learn to keep this stuff under a watchful eye! I mean, a lot of the issues that surround instances like stolen laptops could be avoided by using common sense - Dont let it leave your field of view! If that simple bit of advice was followed, then a lot of these cases could have been avoided! But who am I to make suggestions to the government! We are just sheeple and should stick to what we know..or dont know!

It seems, in this case, a Royal Navy officer had the details of 600,000 people on a laptop which was stolen from his car overnight in Birmingham. The details concern anyone who has expressed interest in joining the Royal Navy, Royal Air Force or the Royal Marines. I gather that the type of details on the laptop depends how much interest each individual showed... those who just sent for some casual information just have their names recorded, where others have passport numbers, national insurance numbers etc.

Quite why this sort of data was stored on a laptop and removed from the Ministry of Defence building itself is a mystery...

Why do they need it on a laptop anyway? How'd it get out of the building?

Not suprised at all, but I like to think at least the MoD would be more careful that other government departments because of increased sensitivity.
Even if it's encrypted, it's still out there, and it means someone has access to it laptops in the MoD.
